UNLV Game Thread

On Sports Daily, a caller called in and said he was listening to the UNLV play-by-play. Apparently, they whined through the whole broadcast that UNLV should have never been sent to WSU by their conference. They also were constantly questioning Connor's eligibility and how he was supposed to play Utah at the earliest.
So, you have douchy radio guys. You had UNLV players talking all game. You had UNLV fans behind the bench becoming so agitated that the sheriff's department had to get involved. And then you had the parade of douche fans over here whining over everything and listing every excuse in the book.
Is there a douchier program out there? Wow.Last edited by ShockerFever; December 10, 2015, 11:24 AM.Deuces Valley.

3. Best press we will see all year.
4. If you were there in person, Wessel's value sparkled like a diamond up a goat's azz.
5. HCGM loves those kind od games more than I do.
6. Kelly has slid down the pecking order a bunch, huh?
7. Monday night I shall call in and pose the free throw question.
8. Every time I see Fred go to the rack, I swear he can't do that again.
9. Baker really doesn't have to score to have a fantastic game.
10. Just slam the damn thing two-handed!!
Officiating definitely favored the Shox last night, not too often that seems to happen. Usually some of those tough, head scratching calls and no-calls go against us.

Sports radio should be fun today in Vegas. I might even call in.
There will be all sorts of complaints about being scheduled, hostile environment, the officiating. The local guys are pretty good about squashing bullshit. One of the hosts was raving about FVV on the Twitter all night.
The main show of the day starts at 1pm DooDah time.

I'm not sure if Antoine stopped in with actual smoldering embers but the play angry was back. Team defense was final four worthy. It's hard to find a B defensive performance. Baker was A+++++++
Not worried about FTs.
Really almost felt bad about the crowd cheering Conner so much...too much pressure, and Fred deserves that kind of response EVERY time he comes in and out of a game.
Speaking of Conner, good game. Shots didn't go down, but that's ok. They will. Fred wants him to be more aggressive. If I were UTAH, I'd look out. If I were another Valley team, and nobody else won at home tonight (wtf) I'd be very very afraid. Dude's going to go Steph Curry on someone and it might not turn off for a long time.
Shaq's energy was fantastic. Very well done young man.
I thought Nurger's energy was great. Big Bush was solid. Now I'm only talking defensively but that's all that matters. The scoring WILL come.
I said before that the days of beating a good team by holding them in the 50s were over.....well I didn't remember this D.
Hats off to the Rebels as well. They played hard. They ARE poorly coached, but you aren't going to recruit (successfully) those players without the promise of showcasing 1 on 1 skills. You live by showboating, you die by showboating. But they played hard.
I thought their ability to press was going to turn us over a lot? 9 Rebels, 19. They are LUCKY we aren't healthy, because OUR press would have blown them out.
"Going to need a better effort"? I have to question that...better output? Ok...I'll buy that because we have to score more, but the effort was there, zero question about that.Originally posted by shockmonster View PostIt's nice to have those scorers but we didn't win because we shot better we won because we had significantly more possessions than UNLV. We came up with a lot of loose balls, offensive rebounds, etc. led by Evan. Don't discount his important contributions.
Last night was different. He wasn't different, but he was a difference maker! At least 5 or 6 times he got to balls on the floor or on rebounds/tips that got us those 5 or 6 extra possessions we needed to win. On top of that, Evan doing these heroics throughout the game, not just once or twice, kept the team (particularly the newbies) on a high defensive/high hustle alert. With those extra possessions, he was worth more than a few points. More like 7 or 8 points plus his own 2. He was special last night against a very athletic opponent.

Dare I say THIS UNLV team has a better press than the 1991 squad? That'll make someone's head explode.

That's UNLV having a great press.

Creighton and JoCo Bubble State are the obvious answers. But that's a lot of douchiness in a short amount of time. Not a good first impression.
It's too bad because I was a fan of the old UNLV teams and certainly didn't mind them handing it to the big boys. Now, I just don't think I could bring myself to root for them ever again. I mean we aren't talking just fans here, we're talkng play by play guys, players, etc.Deuces Valley.

But, as much as I credit UNLV's press for that, I also think there was some major fatigue going on by FVV. He just didn't look quite as sharp in the 2nd half. That combined with the injury. I'm not saying it wasn't a good press, I just think FVV breaks it without a problem if he's 100% healthy.
