I predict we score more points with Baker at the 2, regardless of any other combo on the floor. When baker has the ball at point he immediately gets doubled on any screen attempt and the result is usually not good. Our offence relies on a lot of pick and roll with the pg and in order to be effective IMO we need baker to be able to catch and shoot or make a quick move. The problem is once he his trapped we should have a short term 4 on 5 situation, but with our inexperience and lack of chemistry on offence we are ill equipped to take advantage.

We went away from the pick and roll in the Iowa game. Don't have the PG to make it work, or the big for that matter. Though I think in time, either McDuffie or Hamilton will make a scary pick and roll/pop complement to FVV.

I definitely think that accounts for his sophomore year, (that and it just kindof snowballed into a complete lack of shooting confidence). But he shot 36% last year (not amazing, certainly not terrible). He is off to a cold start this year for sure. Will be interesting to see how that number goes. My guess is up.

I think this is a winnable game, but if the Lou is as up for us as some of the teams we've boatraced in the past, we may lose. I'd say 50/50.

If a couple of guys have a breakout game we can win, with or without Fred.

Sorry, that 36% was his 3PT%. He shot 39% from the field overall last year. Certainly not a lot of sharpshooting going on so far.

Let's get off of EW...he is a role player who is being put in a bad position. As a lifetime role player myself, I know what it's like to play on a "bad" team and suddenly find out it's not so easy to get a rebound or a put-back when your teammates don't box out. It's not so easy to get and save that loose ball when your teammates are not where you expect them to be. Basically being a role player on a great team means you can do your job (hustle, rebound, and get the easy ones) by virtue of your teammates doing theirs. When that equation breaks down, you are suddenly expected to be something your not, and you get "exposed" for not being able to compensate for your teammates lack of execution.

I'm coming in a little late on the Wessel talk, but I see him much like a light-hitting, slick-fielding shortstop in baseball. When you have a lineup with a lot of good hitters, that SS is much more valuable than if the lineup struggles to hit. You can deal with his lack of hitting due to the production of the other players.

Evan has had the good fortune of being in lineups with Fred, Ron, Tekele and Cleanthony/Darius (a lineup of heavy hitters, per se). We didn't need five scorers on the floor. Four was plenty. But now with only one proven scorer (Ron), we could use the position Evan occupies for someone with more scoring ability.

For those who are too young, Dick Boushka was a great BB player. He and he Cleo bumped heads often and were both All MVC All Stars several years in a row. They played together on Wichita Vickers' AAU team after graduating for a short time.
