      Anton's father says he wants to play again and finish his basketball career at WSU. He thinks his son will be back to 100% strength after two weeks of rest. I'm sure he's just going off of what he's heard, but he made it sound like Anton is at least going to attempt to come back and play. I can't say if I would make that attempt or not, because I'm not familiar enough with the possible consequences. We do know that the only reason Anton came to WSU is because it's always been his dream to play in the NCAA tournament, so I wouldn't be surprised if he does everything he possibly can to get back on the court. Whatever he decides, I just hope it turns out the best for him, regardless if it's on the court or not.

        This .. While the majority of the decision will rely on the doctors to clear him, if it comes down to Grady's choice, I give it a 90% possibility that he's back in the lineup by March. He's going to work his tail off to make sure that happens.

          We won't win in St. Louis with the same formula we've been playing with. If FVV is back, that changes things, although I worry about his level of rust and chemistry with the team first game in. if FVV is not ready, we need to put Ron back at the 2. We need his scoring more than we need him dribbling the ball up the court and getting the team into the right set.

          Further, I love Evan, but he was shielded last year because we had Tekele and Darius as the other 2 scoring threats. We don't have that and he's not getting enough loose balls and rebounds to make up for lack of offensive production. We need other guys with more well rounded games that can bring in a scoring punch. Markis, Eric and even Shaq bring offense, I might even throw Zach Brown in the mix but he's been fouling and turning the ball over way too much.

          At minimum, I'd like to see Ron back at the 2 even if Evan is still starting at the 3. I still hold out hope we can win this game, but not expecting too much right now.

            I've seen people mention Grady getting his degree, but wasn't him already having it the reason he was able to transfer with immediate eligibility to Wichita State? Maybe he's in position to get a Master's with one more semester but I have a feeling him being in Wichita is only because of basketball and he will do everything to get himself ready to play again. @WuDrWu: obviously knows more about the situation than I would so I will assume the road to recovery is a lot longer than has been made public and I wish him the best in whatever path he decides to pursue.

              I think some of the Shocker youths started to figure out what Playing Angry felt like for a few minutes in the second half of the Iowa game. If they can latch onto that, they have an awful lot of talent that will start to win out.

                Because our team leader is sitting on the bench with a hammy injury. And because Shamet and Conner can't play yet. And because our best center was literally injured to the point of paralysis with 3 minutes to go in the second game. And because our newcomers only have 4 and 5 games of experience but had to play extended minutes against tough competition. And because our underclassmen don't know how to lead in terms of communication yet. And because we were ranked we were getting every opponents absolute best game at the absolute worst possible time.

                    You're not getting this.

                    Masters = advanced degree.
                    Bachelor's = degree.

                    Both are degrees. Are you reading something into the posts?

                      Good point, I just don't know how a non-productive starter fixes this. Note I think this should be a temporary change. Once we start getting some scorers back, I would consider starting him again. I like his hustle.

                        As with any injruy, I'm going to assume there are different degrees of severity. Did Grady sustain a major or minor spinal concussion, or with this type of injury, does it even matter? I think we need more information before we speculate. If his father says two weeks, then he may be basing this off what a doctor is telling him. Lets hope that he received a very minor spinal concussion (if there is such a thing).

                          I didn't mean to insinuate that I know anything about Grady's attitudes or academic standing. I don't even know how the scholarships work. If Grady is 2 years away from a Masters does he get a scholarship for both of those years? Usually the graduate transfer rule is used to get to a better basketball school and not to get a graduate degree. Maybe Grady fully intends on getting a graduate degree from Wichita State. If so, great, I was just playing the percentages with my guess. If Grady is able to get a graduate degree for free then of course he should take advantage of it, but I know that's not always the route students want to take.

                            Interesting article. Sounds like if it's your first incident and you pass certain criteria that a return to play is not out of question. This article is written with football players in mind. I imagine this is a much rarer injury in basketball.

                            Obviously the most important thing is his long term health.

                              And I don't think that anyone (except someone who knows Grady's personal information) could give us a correct answer. Using the word 'degree' in that context fits either situation, but I'm guessing he's already graduated and is working on a master's in ????? (fill in the question marks). Based on what I know, I would think a full-time student could get a master's degree in roughly a year. It might take a summer session full-time, but I believe it could be done.

                              It took me a year to get halfway to my MBA at Washout U. in one year. I worked full time. If I had continued on that track instead of moving to Texas, I would have been done in another year.

                                So one interesting thought is ... he would obviously qualify for a medical redshirt, letting him have another go next year with us and a little practice time with our current squad once he's able. That wouldn't be so bad!
