Random observations:
I love going to these tournaments because you can sit so close and really see and hear what is going on. My preference is the baseline.
Which brings me to my first point - at least as of right now, this Shocks team doesn't talk as much on D as last year's version. I chalk that up to freshmen and way more new combinations, but still.
The game was evenly called - refs blew a few calls that helped us.
Except for the T. Unless 3G got really familiar and profane with that ref's mother verbally, it was too quick. Especially relative to the circus act that Avery Johnson put on and the same ref just stood there - which I think was Gregg's point to the other refs. I am not a lip reader but that's what I thought I saw.
You can check my post history to see how much I like Shaq, but damn. I would have to search my memory banks pretty hard to find someone that disinterested in warmups when he knows he's going to play. I know how the doghouse feels, but... damn. You've got a chance to make a living playing the game big fella - carpe diem!
There is a tremendous amount of East-West in our offense compared to previous years. Which makes sense because Fred is our Adrian Peterson.
Rashard has happy feet on almost every dribbling opportunity and it makes me nervous.
If you could give Shaq a little of T4's urgency and desire to affect the game... sweet holy Jesus.
If you could give T4 a little of Shaq's relaxation...
i think the injuries to Fred and Landry manifested themselves most clearly as us moving from untrappable to extremely trappable.
Ron is a warrior but he is not a PG, backup or otherwise. Give me Simon if you have to, but Bake needs to be coming off screens.
I'm not 100 percent sure Hamilton knew what he was supposed to do or who he was supposed to talk to after being named player of the game - he looked like he was trying to find a rental car in the lot. Get used to it big fella - you're going to be on the air a lot in the coming years.
I think we beat USC with Landry to distribute the ball, and I think we beat Bama as well without the Anton incident.
Bottom line - what I see is a team trying to find its identity. Part of that is from the very unfamiliar territory of having Fred around for 3 years plus this year. Part is underclassmen. Part is a combination between the two. Fortunately, they don't have to do that all year.
Stay the course, keep the faith, onward and upward.
