Dayton won @ Vandy last night and jumped WSU in kenpom rankings today. WSU winning close at home against good, but not elite team not enough to jump WSU ahead of anyone. Thus the 1 spot net drop in rank.

At least, that is what it seems to me as best I can tell. Remember, unlike RPI, Pomeroy does look at margin of victory, so 6 point home win over team he ranks outside top 50 isn't going to be a huge boost.


And yes, it is still early and all systems have some kinks to work out.

Except for the past 12 hours, where we dropped a spot in KP for beating UNLV. Go figure the math out on that one.

IIRC he slowly phases out the weighting given to prior seasons' (plural, I think he goes back 9 years in calculating preseason rankings) performance + expected production from returning personnel. After something like a dozen games, a team's ranking is resting entirely on that particular season's body of work.

A win against UNLV definitely helped but only to the degree that it offset the additional percentage weighting of 2015-16 to date.

I'm okay with not moving much after this win. We won by a predicted margin, so we held our own basically. I suppose this game proved that we belong where we are listed (and not lower). If we win a couple more this week, we will start moving up.

Alabama is losing Dazon Ingram for the rest of the year. That won't help them keep their RPI up.
