  • Evansville and UNI won't do any worse than normal. It's not like refs are gonna allow the foul disparity to be 30 between 2 teams.

    • Players who are good defenders don't seem to foul as much. When Cotton was here, he didn't foul as much, and Baker doesn't foul that much. So I don't think the rule will affect us that much.

      • Maybe with @KungWu 's growing influence with the NCAA he could get them to implement a rule against excessive flopping. I would like them to clean that up and put an end to those shenanigans.

            • Baker said a finger touching the offensive player constituted a foul. If true, I support moving to six fouls per player.

Well, Ginobili has a little soccer player in him. You touch some of those guys, and the way they roll around in agony it looks like someone needs to send for a wheelchair -- until they pop up and resume running.

I wish I had been able to see Duncan's face -- he had to be at least chuckling at that exchange.

                • Like some others, I believe we'll be completely fine. Our players play good defense without slapping, holding, and all that junk. And they rarely draw charges*.

Like kai mentioned, it will hurt undersized, less skilled, less athletic teams (none of which we really have to worry about, as last year's Wisconsin and Kentucky aren't in our way this year). It will also hurt a lot of Big Ten teams who like to turn games into a rugby match (I'm looking at you, Michigan State).

The freedom of movement will do a lot more to increase efficiency and scoring than decreasing the shot clock will. Jay Bilas and his ilk basically used the bully pulpit to enact this change and I'm not a huge fan of the 30 second clock.

*Somewhat related, charges are the most annoying thing about college basketball and it rewards a secondary defender flying in at the last minute to jump under a ball-handler who already got himself an open lane to the basket. Now, granted, guys who barrel into their primary defender should be whistled for a foul, but this secondary defender jumping in and playing what I like to call "Duke" defense is awful (and potentially dangerous).

                    Now that is funny.

I think that depth will become more important than ever. Even players who don't have a problem fouling will foul out some. In tight games, that could be the difference.

                    • When does the conference game pick 'em contest begin.

                      WSU - 4
                      UNI - 3
                      ISB - 1
                      LOY - 1
                      UE - 1

                      Just wondering.

I think that is now up to you RDR in accordance with ShockerNet rules I believe he who first mentions it is deemed to have volunteered to administer the contest. Darn you just barely beat me to it. :biggrin-new:

Not that I am one (currently)...but most definitely have been known to play one on TV....... ;)

Wichita St. is KNOWN for it's BIG-TIME DEFENSE and AGGRESSIVE "box-out" rebounding. Wichita St. returns a veteran team that WILL BE competing for a National Championship. Wichita St. has EVAN WESSEL. Wichita St. is a REAL threat to dismantle the "shoe contract" paradigm.

OF COURSE the rules will be changed this year. Lest not us forget the "powers that be" know EXACTLY how to protect the "shoe contracts".
That was indeed paranoid, even by your standards AZ.

                              • This rule will hurt the Shox the way making a golf course longer hurts Tiger Woods.

On the surface, you say, well yeah it does make it harder for Tiger Woods.

                                Then you realize.

It hurts the whole field, and being able to hit the ball long makes the impact on him the least.

The Shox are a good defensive team. These rules will hurt the poor defensive teams much more than the Shox.
