I've actually already moved on to worrying about what we're going to do when we graduate Shamat, Taylor, McDuffie and Hamilton in the same year. I mean Gregg Marshall obviously doesn't know how to recruit considering the class imbalances and recruiting voids. Would he even recognize a good point guard if he saw one?

The NCAA will likely keep us out of the tournament based on injuries alone. Good teams players don't get injured.

        Won't be Marshall's issue...everyone KNOWS he'll be long gone....:)

Heck, look where they put us last year and we barely lost to Utah and had an awesome conference record. If we drop to usc and another top 50 team like Utah we might be screwed. I hope not but the committee doesn't do us any favors (see 2014 and 15 ncaa tournaments)
They wanted a WSU-KU matchup. Simple as that.

          ... No really, deuces.

          • If the goal is still a NCAA championship, then seeding is irrelevant. If seeding is irrelevant the only question the committee should ask themselves is "is the bracket better with WSU in it?".

            Yes. We'll be dancing.

If you're bad at math, statistics, and probabilities - like really bad - then you can say "seeding is irrelevant" with a straight face. Otherwise...

I do hate math, and I get what you're saying, but if you want to win it all you have to go through really good teams of all seeding. I don't care if we're a 12 seed this year or a 2. That's just me though.

You do have to go through really good teams. But a great seed can mean you have to go through less of them, which has an immense impact on odds of winning the whole thing.

Or you could be a 1 seed and face UK in round two :)

                      Very true.

But how tough was round 1? Would you say, more or less tough than VCU, Pitt, or Indiana?

The odds are multiplicative. Getting a freebie in Round 1 has tremendous impact on ability to advance deep.

                      • I'd rather take my chances as a, say, 1-3 seed than take my chances as a 10-12 seed. But that's just me.

I know, I know, you're right. Seeding does generally matter. But i think some of the data is skewed. High seeds advance more often because both (1) they typically face easier competition and (2) they themselves are typically better teams.

                          • Cdizzle, please keep up the good work. The "if you want to win it all you have to beat really good teams, therefore seeding barely matters" crowd drives me crazy.

You better leave the complicated math to those of us that have earned that honor. I want to play as many Truck Stop U's that gets me to the final four. Then those other two teams can shake in their boots.
