I do remember some Sweater vest fans who were (and I imagine still are) so very arrogant over small time successes against WSU. Is there a reason for your higher than normal anger?

Soren Petro is a prime example of why we get very little respect in preseason polls. These guys casting the ballots are complete homers spread out across the country. KU at #1? Please show me why! Come on season! Get here quick!

Because they brought in a player who hasn't yet been cleared to play yet. That's always good for about five spots in a poll.

But honestly, they were a top-10 team last year and return several starters. I do get it. Sort of. But the real question is, were they overrated for most of the year? Some would say yes.

Is Petro an actual voter? One of the requirements is that you aren't a homer. That's grounds for losing your vote. From the San Jose Mercury link someone posted earlier:

I never really thought of Soren as a KU homer.

He is a Syracuse Homer. I guess KU at #1 is as good as anyone else. Hype is in full swing. .

Now, can they lose 7 or 8 this year to ensure themselves of a #1 seed?

You could (and should) get ridiculed for doing so but picking Kansas as #1 isn't necessarily grounds for losing your vote due to homerism. I think doing something asinine like picking K-State as the #1 team in the country would do the trick.
