His responsibilities will be similar to ones he took on during the 2015-16 season. They will include film study, scouting reports, statistical analysis and observation and evaluation of players during practice. He will be allowed to sit on the bench during games.
“I am excited for the opportunity to rejoin the Wichita State men’s basketball program,” Jans said in a news release. “I am especially appreciative of Coach Marshall and (interim athletic director) Darron Boatright for making this happen. WSU is a special place, and I look forward to competing for championships and helping in any manner that I can.”
Jans can't coach or run drills in practices. All he can do is have assistants do that for him. There are going to be some assistants learning a lot about coaching very quickly.
Having him on the bench in games is HUGE. Jans was the guy that I thought Marshall relied on a lot for another viewpoint on how to handle situations and players in games. He can still do that. He just can't coach players.
That probably means he won't be allowed to talk to players. I think Jans was also the guy who kept players' encouraged when Marshall gave them some in-game coaching that involved a lot of veins in his neck being visible.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades. We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

All true. Although there was a time or two where I saw Jans ripping some serious butt coming off the court into a timeout.

I think the exact rule says that when Chris looks at players now, he will have to do so when wearing a muzzle. If not wearing one, he has to look away.
Great news. Wonder how Jans will handle sitting on the bench without being able to instruct the players. His hoarse voice was pretty much a trademark post game.
