Yes on Jans. Would do better with 2/3 star recruits than Barnes could do with higher ones and
I seriously doubt Barnes could get 4/5 star players to come here.

As posted on another thread - bump GM to 2.5M with .5M bonus incentive with every S16 and
    1M incentive for every F4
I wish, but I think those figures are a tad unrealistic. IMHO, which is only slightly better than guessing entirely, I'd say 2.3M and in addition to his other incentives, $75,000-$100,000 for each round of the NCAA tourney.

If Gregg wants to leave what could very well be the best team he has ever assembled, to go someplace he may never have a team this good and even if he did the fans wouldn't care, then I say don't let the door hit you on the way out. Hire Coach Jans ( I have no doubt he would come back after 1 year at BG), retain one or two of our current assistant's (a very possible scenario) and the program will not miss a beat.

I sense a little bitterness with the door comment. It's not just you, and it's a minority of fans. But I have nothing but respect and gratitude for the last half decade of shocker success that Gregg is largely responsible for. If he wants to leave for Austin, I'll honestly root for them on the side. Wsu is in much better shape to survive Gregg's potential departure BECAUSE of Gregg...

2.5M base, 1M annual retention, plus normal performance bonuses. No buyout, He just forfeits unpaid annual retention bonuses if he leaves,.

If he's underpaid, get him to a point that makes him happy and will stop entertaining offers. You want to be like Gonzaga? I don't see Mark Few flirting with offers every year. Few has made it quite known that he's not leaving and his name no longer comes up in coaching searches. It could be possible that he has more success in recruiting because his recruits aren't afraid of him leaving. It would be nice if our coach would do the same. End rant.
And Gonzaga fan aren't creating 5 or 6 different threads wondering if Mark Few is going to leave.

I think they only stopped calling Few after the Shockers beat him.. :-)

No bitterness at all, but if he doesn't want to be here now, show him the door!

Are you 100% sure about that? I have to say that is one smelly place.

If he doesn't want to be here he will show us the door. Not sure you understand what is going on here. Maybe you need to revisit the 90s to gain a proper perspective on how important it is to have a good coach in place. More importantly, I don't think you understand how blessed we are to have him.

This, but extrapolate a whole lot more. I know firsthand from people who have met Barnes that he's a very nice guy, but for many years i was absolutely dumbfounded at how poorly his teams shared the ball. In fact, it was a running joke with a former teammate who was a huge UT fan and probably had the highest basketball IQ of anyone I know that his practices consisted primarily of playing Knockout.

                          And then there was this:

                          http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebaske...blew-your-mind

Please tell me what you think would happen to that guy in the Valley. In fact, I think that quote was the beginning of the end for him - I know a few diehard Texas basketball fans (yes, there are about 2 dozen of them statewide), and they were dumbfounded by it. Not that he thought it or tat it was his strategy, but that he actually said it.

I quit hating the guy after 2013 because I had an uneasy feeling about him getting canned.

In summary - please stop the Barnes talk. He's the anti-Marshall - terrible Xs and Os, is totally dependent on 5 star recruits, and would kick this program into the abyss quicker than Leonidas sent the diplomat downstairs in 300.

Several other thoughts on this mess but I'll end with the Barnes rant that feels satisfying after 2+ years of secretly cheering for terrible basketball.

I think you don't know what I understand. I don't need to revisit anything, once was enough. I know exactly what we have probably way more than you, but please stop with the defeatist attitude. If he wants to be here that is great! If he doesn't then like the title of this thread, this is a great job and we need to move on and not be held hostage every year.

Don't sleep on Kenny Payne from UK. I posted my idea on a different thread but seriously if we could get him it would be a huge steal. He is one of the best recruiters in the nation and does quite a bit of recruiting for UK. I'm pretty much regurgitating what I said in the other post, but I think it's a cool idea.
