It seems to me that some is charging or someone is blocking.

Despite what is said by the announcers (Webber I believe), Ellis did not always have his arms up straight and Ellis never established position. Ellis was still moving to the side as FVV started his jump, as FVV started up Ellis's arms were not straight up and only when Ellis bodied Fred did this arms go straight up, and after the contact, Ellis continued to go side ways (not straight back) in the direction his initial movement was taking him.

This is around the 5:50 mark of the first half. If any one knows how to do a clip of the play and run it in slow motion, I think it will be very obvious.
Yes, he did slide over at the last second. But I felt like that because he continued to slide across and past FVV's path he was no longer impeding FVV's line to the basket when FVV elevated. That's why my reaction was that there shouldn't be a block. Ellis' arm does bang FVV's though.

FVV's move is something incredible. He starts out on Perry's left side and while in the air is able to move his body around to Perry's right side (assisted by Perry's sideways movement. this is also what resulted in the elbow to the face. FVV's attempt to pull his elbows in to get around Perry.). It's like a ridiculous double clutch through tons of contact. He ultimately gets what looks like a pretty good shot off. The first time, I didn't notice but Perry's hand actually ends up back on FVV's shoulder as FVV is releasing the ball. There was definitely enough contact that Perry should've been called for a foul. FVV is just an incredible athlete.

          • How can you call a charge when the guy literally JUMPS sideways to get in your way towards the basket?

                    • Was sitting here thinking about last weekend. A couple times it has come up about Ron and his affinity for KU growing up. Also, that he had a Kirk H poster in his bedroom. Just wondering how many youngsters in Kansas, hell, across the country, have Ron Baker hanging on their wall. How cool is that.
Where oh where is our T. Boone Pickens.

I spoke with 3 good, experienced, fair and knowledgeable officials today.

To a man they agreed the shot to the nose was a basketball play and was just an unfortunate by product of such.

2 believed that technically it was a block but they would have passed because it was fairly tame.

The third believed a block should have been called.

All three laughed at the possibility of either an intentional foul or a charge.

None would be considered WSU guys, although certainly they know what's going on.

                        FWIW

1/16/2010 on the "Screw at the Q" HCGM... " Ive never seen a foul parade like that...If you would of let me know it was going to be a foul parade I would of brought a different team" .... "dont talk to me about fouls....Ive got to go back and look at some tape... I have some thoughts but I need to look at the tape and then I will have something very strong to say"

                              1) It was clearly a basketball play. Definitely not an F1 or even remotely close to an F2.
                              2) Clearly not a blocking foul. Ellis established a legal guarding position and was vertical during his elevation.

It was a very good 'no call'.

                              That is all.
Above all, make the right call.

Thanks. I was so wound up I neglected to hit the record button until halftime. I'll certainly feel better having the whole game.
