We need makers! Imagine CF in the lineup against isu at arch madness. I don't think the zone would have been an issue.
I just want to stand on land...

I disagree. I went to all the games and they truly shared the position among themselves. They were combo guards with some point guard skills but not true point guards like Fred is. They were true 1 and 2 guards who Marshall made into our point guards. They took on most of the point guard responsibilities but shared them with other guards. Armstead was mostly a point guard but when Fred came into the game, even Armstead went to the shooting guard. I remember games where sometimes Toure brought the ball up and sometimes Ragland brought the ball up. They truly shared the position. D Will also played some point guard but not all the time.

That's assuming he would have been on. I hope that's the case with Conner, but I get a chuckle when fans assume based on real events that a hypothetical positive outcome automatically would have happened.

I have heard that anytime that the team has a 3pt contest he wins every time.

You said yourself, Marshall made Ragaland and Hannah into point guards. That was my point. At WSU, they were point guards. They never played together, so they could not share the duties with each other. Toure played PG out of necessity when we had no one else. Toure, DWill and Kyles were combo guards durng the Hannah/Ragland years.. who played some PG..

HCGM only played Armstead at the two for a short period of time to get him out of Marcus Armdud mode, and playing TWO point guards simultaneously freed him up to take 3 point shots. Once Marcus became Malcolm again it was right back to PG. And during the NCAA tourney, I believe even Fred played some at the two, but that didn't make him a combo... It made him PG #2.

To the extent that anyone else played PG during Clevin and Joe's tenure, it was purely to spell them, or play PG in their absence (Clevin's 3 game timeout courtesy of the NCAA).

Corey Henderson was brought in the with the idea that he would become a PG. Rignt now, he is a combo, and that is being charitable. So far he is not looking like he will be an adequate replacement full-time for Fred. Tyrone Taylor was recruited as a PG, but I have seen him referenced as a combo. Time will tell with him. Landry plays/played PG in HS. We will see where he lands. I am not sure if any of them will be true PGs at WSU, but Clevin and Joe were true PGs at WSU, no matter they were in Juco.

What defense do they play in these 3pt contests?

I heard last year he shot 31% from the 3 pt line. Not sure those in-house 3pt contests helped much when the bright lights shine. Don't assume he will save the day every time we struggle from 3 next year. I like the fact he has a picture perfect stroke. It doesn't automatically equate to cherry picking a game we struggle with long range shooting that he will automatically be the answer.

I agree with all of this except that Joe was NOT a good PG for his first 15 or 20 games at WSU. He and Demetric shared the role...poorly until Toure took over for a few games. Later in his junior season Ragland was very good.

Clevin, Joe, and Mal were all PGs that could shoot IMO.

31% as a D-I freshman is not awful, but it certainly doesn't give you confidence.

47% in high school...for his career, tells me he can shoot.

45% in international play (two gold medals) against the best in the world at his age tells me he can play with anyone.

Depending on which stat you lean on, he's either one if the best shooters in the country, or an overmatched freshman.

                      • BTW, Joe Ragland shot 31% his first year in D-I and 50% his second.

Absolutely not concerned. Last year's numbers an aberration. Dude never got in a flow last year with the quick hook. I fully expect "lights out" next year.

I agree. Anyone who has played basketball and spent time on the bench understands how hard it is to enter a game cold and perform at anything close to your best.

Why? Because it's fun to imagine different scenarios in your head involving your favorite sports team?
