Perhaps the sponsors would buy into simply having all of the video boards simulataneously denote "THANK YOU to [insert logo here] for sponsoring this portion of the timeout." The $$$ that spend on hanouts or winning contests could still be collected, but awarded in the form of a scholarship(s) to a student selected from those in attendance. If student IDs are scanned, the "selection" could be based on grades or whatever other data can be accessed by the ID number.

Remember when Nancy Pelosi said about Obamacare:
"We have to pass it, to find out what's in it".
A physician called into a radio show and said:
"That's the definition of a stool sample."

If you were at the 81 Iowa game or the last game Nolan Richardson coached against Gene Smithson, which was an afternoon game, you were at the two loudest regular season games, followed by the Florida State game, which was ear splitting, but also had a very different and younger crowd than a regular season game. Also, the two Smithson era games had 500 more people in attendance. That said, yesterday was tremendous, with GM only having to get the crowd on its feet once. I like the Ashley contest and think a 3 point contest in the first half is fine. Everything else is a joke and should be eliminated. Finally, Don Hall needs to retire, and we need a Fresh, young, homer voice as PA announcer!"Two dribbles and a ham sandwich" ~ Gregg Marshall

As strange as it might sound to the marketing geniuses, for me and mine the timeout promotions actually promote a negative feeling towards the advertisers, NOT a positive one, due to how asinine they are, and how we are all supposed to drop our emotions for the game and team we love to watch people make asses of themselves in front of 10,506 strong. I'm guessing that is the opposite connotation the purveyors are going for.
If I owned a business, and that business had the means, I would call up the WSU AD tomorrow, ask them for the value they would need in order to kill by fire the asinine IGP, in return for my company's image to simply be broadcast on all the LED boards and monitors in CKA. That's not the reality though.
I do obviously appreciate the revenue generated by the IGP's, but they simply can't be bringing in THAT much revenue. The companies that advertise in such are not major operations, and I would assume most would easily fall under the definition of a small business. If the IGP's are within reach of Jim Bob's Pool Service and his equivalents, we're not exactly talking about Super Bowl ads.

They started adding one or two IGP to halftime, which I think is a plus. It's a dedicated intermission time, so it's better than a timeout, especially if there's not going to be a real halftime show.
That being said, this was the loudest I have ever heard CKA in my short time. Simply an incredible environment. Proud to be a Shocker.
