  • As a recent grad, I'm disappointed in the student section. I remember going to all the games even in the CBI/NIT days and these students lately have had it nice seeing a team that consistently wins. I have friends who go to North Carolina State University and they suffered a similar problem. I attached a link below that details how their student tickets work. They offer a lottery system based on loyalty to all the sports and to the older students. you can register online for the lottery and try for tickets. If you win tickets, you are given more lottery weight in future draws. If you do not use the tickets you are penalized in future lotteries. They also have a set of tickets reserved for Wolf Pack members who cnnsistlenty attend games and pay for seats. I think this system would work great at WSU and rewards long time fans and also rewards those who use their tickets.

In college, they really focus on making it super easy so the crowd can follow like Defense-Shockers-Defense. Although I think they could add some more chants, you will see the same chants in every college across the country because the crowd is only going to follow simple stuff. I know when I cheered there we tried new stuff and it never stuck. I think game cheering is an important part of cheering but let's be honest almost all college cheer squads that compete such as Wichita State's squad are way more concerned about competing, stunts, basket tosses, and tumbling than the game. In fact when I cheered the games were an after thought. I prefer the schools now that are making an acrobat and tumbling team such as Baylor and Oregon instead of cheer squads so they can focus purely on competing.
This is right on seskridge! It's not about getting the crowd and students involved more but practicing for competition. Very frustrating to watch over the years. Does anyone remember the guy cheerleader when we were playing at Gross? Ran around the arena with a sign to pump up the crowd.

      • What if we had a 'pep rally' type 'practice' after the women's game Friday night? Surely the campers could use an extra hour indoors and it might help coordinate things for Saturday? Both on the Gameday and game time fronts. We've had some good ideas on here for chants and stuff, it just needs to be coordinated. It might even start something that could be carried over to next season (out in Shocker Hall or something). Just a thought.

        • BTW, according to Bob Hull on last nights post-game show students who attend the WBB game vs Drake on Friday night will get priority for seating for the GameDay show.

A pep rally practice run during the women's game might even be better. Friday is a pretty big game for the Women as well.

Exactly. I feel like the ball has been dropped in an epic fashion here.
