My apologies, then. :) I see people get torn apart here over such small things, that it put me on alert.

And I absolutely agree. My friend and I were talking about all this last night, and he suggested something as simple as having a print out with the songs, cheers, etc to inform everyone.

Leadership has to come within the university. If they provide students with the opportunity to rise up and be leaders, then it can probably be done.

Right now, I don't think WSU really cares about what the students think.
The opportunity is already there. The school is doing nothing at all to prevent any organized action.

You are asking them to devote additional salaries and benefits to do the work for the students. That is lazy and unimaginative.

This is like a man with a fishing pole saying "If I just had that $30,000 bass boat, maybe I could feed myself."

You miss the point. I'm saying help create an organization (with the students) that the students can run themselves.

There are multiple orginaztions on campus that the faculty help get up and running. They'll need a faculty advisor anyways.

Nope. I see what you are saying very clearly.

"Do the work for me." Or at least most of it.

You seem to have it all figured out, why don't you go get it started then?

There needs to be a good relationship between the students and athletic department. That's why they need to work TOGETHER.

lol. Translation = "Yeah, you're right."

Now you've moved from asking the school to do the work to asking me to do the work.

Maybe you should ask the students to do the work.

If that's what you want to believe, then I can't change your mind.

do you know how starting an RDO works on campus?

If not, here is a link

Most of the time, they have their faculty adviser (usually someone who shares in the interest of the organization) help mentor them and make sure they have all the pieces they need. Then, once they are up and running that relationship continues: helps over see the running of the organization, helps them make the proper connections on campus, etc.

So, yes, while the students will run and do most all the work, they still need the relationship with the faculty and the university to be successful. That's why I say they need to work together on this.

When has this request been denied in the past?

That is the main issue you are somehow whooshing on. Nobody is obstructing the process- the students have to take the initiative. They are not.

If it is as you imply and there is a conspiracy amongst faculty members to refuse to mentor such groups, upon request, as advisors, please provide evidence and out those dirty scoundrels.

                    • Nevermind. We clearly aren't seeing eye-to-eye with this.

Yes, I agree students should take more initiative. No question.

That's not the argument I am trying to make.

I agree something as simple as handouts with cheers and chants would be beneficial to help organize students. All it really takes is a group of passionate, creative students getting together tocome up with ideas and then have the gumption to start it at the games. I think those students will be amazed that if they start something the rest of the students will follow. If money is needed for handouts, signs etc I bet we could get some crowd funding going on ShockerNet.

                          • There are a lot of good ideas here. Maybe the AD should take the bull by the horns and bring all parties (Maniacs, band, cheerleaders) together under an assistant AD with a directive to get it organized or he'll find others who will. Also, as has been mentioned, during timeouts, less Don Hall and more band. In fact, all band all of the time. NO MORE DON HALL AND NO MORE STUPID EXCITEMENT KILLING PROMOTIONS DURING TIMEOUTS!

I know it is unrelated, but lowering the floor and adding new seats as TCU did, (per the images posted several pages ago) would be a huge improvement to the Round House. I'd think the price WSU could charge for those new seats would pay the construction costs within a couple of seasons.

                            • Anyone wanting to eliminate the in-game promotions, that is a great idea!! Feel free to write a giant check to the athletic department to cover that portion of Marshall's salary. Otherwise, overcome it in other ways.
