I don't believe anyone has suggested adding seating for the students.

It wasn't that long ago that they finally installed an in-floor net system for the Volleyball team so that they could be considered for an NCAA hosting opportunity. IIRC, there was concern about the level of the water table under the floor that caused them to put that off for a number of years. And even if they could, would we gain enough seating to make it worthwhile. After all the corners of the court are very close to the seats now. Now room form any more end zone seats by just dropping the court, although you diminish the value of the existing seats by moving the court further away. You might gain a little bit on the sidelines but those areas appear pretty congested as it is.
Sorry for going off topic. The water table may be a problem, I don't know. The rest of your post leads me to believe you didn't bother to look at the before and after images of the TCU court. Added seating on the sidelines closer to the court. Closer = higher value. Make those seats a little wider = even higher value. There has been recent talk of luxury boxes and increased seating at the top, which may require expanding the foot print of the arena, and/or raising the roof, at incredible cost. Lowering the court would not require expanding the arena footprint or raising the roof, and may be a more cost effective way to increase seating. It doesn't get you luxury boxes, but it could provide some luxury and/or higher profit seating.

Would not hurt to investigate it and evaluate it assuming that option has not alreaady been considered and rejected. Not saying it that has happened although architects/engineers have certainly studied the Arena at the time of the Roundhouse Renaissance and maybe again when they looked at the feasability of adding skyboxes. I have no idea whether lowering the floor or not is feasible or cost effective at Koch Arena. An e-mail to ADES to look at what TCU did would not hurt anything.

Just go to the RSC (CAC for older folks) and go to the Shocker bar and grill in the basement at the bowling alley. The beer is cold and affordable (usually Shock Top is a special) and they will have GameDay on the TV's. The food is OK as well.

Nice, I'll be hyped as well. Both teams get through tonight, MVC crown on the line - should be an insanely good game. Can't wait.

Going clear back to high school, no one would want to be caught dead mimicking 90% of the things cheerleaders say and do. Being half an arena away from them I can't say I notice much of what they do, but if the students aren't following them, then they need to come up with better material that will actually be 1. Appealing for students, and 2. Situationally appropriate. Generic, recycled chants our parents remember from school (and I'm 45) fail on both counts.

That's just my opinion and I'm admittedly biased. I don't think cheerleaders add anything to the game experience and I find them annoying. Always have.

                      • What about offering a $500 scholarship to two random students each game?

It wouldn't cost the university a lot of $$$ and they could find fun ways to reward them each game (best sign, best costume, loudest/craziest, etc.).

Hell, that could be a way a company does their promotions.

Good idea. I remember that they used to do that although it was sponsored by Saturn of Wichita. I guess they quit once Saturn went out of business. From the old Shocker Maniac brochure:

                          SATURN SCHOLARSHIPS

                          - Eight $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to WSUstudents throughout the year. Six of these scholarships will be awarded to ShockerManiacs ONLY!!! Shocker Maniac must be present and be wearing their Shocker Maniac t-shirt to win. Games will be announced at a later date.

                          • Here's the deal. Students are lazy. They are entitled. The best of them showed his face last year with the whole fred ex BS. Student seating should be condinsed to the bottom half of the 2 sections.

So what if "don't start no stuff won't be no stuff" isn't edgy enough for you. Just because it's PG doesn't mean it's inferior. Thinking chants have to have things like xShit and x**** in them to be "cool" shows that you haven't matured past middle school when you discovered them and used them in hushed tones when you thought teachers weren't listening.
And the court can't be lowered. There are rooms below it that are used for different things IIRC.
Go find some easy pop or rock songs that have a hook that can be sung that are intimidating. Come up with your own. It takes effort and it's hard. Get used to it if you want to succeed in life.

                              • Maybe I misunderstand the situation, but from my understanding the issue revolves entirely around the students being able to pick up tickets for multiple games at once. Thus the fix would be simple, only allow students to pick up the ticket for the current game. Yes, it makes it more of a pain in the butt both for the students and the ticket office, but one gets paid to do a job and the other gets something free. Thus they can deal with it.
