  • I'm pretty sure that people leaving early probably includes similar problems to a few rows of students not showing up.

I think it comes down to lack of competition. Now that we're so good, these teams aren't fun to play anymore. This is why I still don't like our conference very much.

I get what you're saying, but they put themselves to more shame than anything. Body checking opposing players, pinning Self to the scorers table and chanting the F word is far more shameful.

In fairness, I thought they were chanting “Pluck KU”! :)

Start by standing, clapping, and yelling. It isn't hard. Don't wait for someone else to appoint themselves a leader and tell you what to do. If you get 1500 students doing that, everything else will fall into place.
So can we look for you to be doing this at every timeout from now on?

I remember when we weren't a Top 25 program and we actually had halftime entertainment to look forward to. Now that we are good, we can't even book Quick Change or some dogs riding around on monkeys and bicycles? C'mon, ADES. That may very well be your problem right there. Rant over.
No joke. Most people just walk around the concourse now, because it's more entertaining.

What is sad is that ADES, while being a nice man, is more interested in shaking hands than anything. I asked him about how my friend, who is a Shocker alumn, could look into doing a halftime show at a game (their group has done halftime shows at NBA games). He seemed pretty disinterested and said to talk to the marketing department.

Seems like apathy is the issue on many levels.

On one hand, I did catch myself thinking similar thoughts, that the atmosphere at Bramlage last night was better than ours. That said, put KU in our building on a regular basis and we will get the roof to cave in at some point. The blessing of being really, really good also makes games anticlimatic. I will cheer loudly as much as anyone (about had a coronary during the Kentucky game last year when Cle posterized Willie Cauley-Stein), but it is hard to sustain that spirit when you are beating clearly inferior opponents. I'm with ShockerPhi and dislike the Valley for its collective plight. For the most part, for Valley games to become tense and unpredictable, WSU has to drop to some teams' level because they certainly won't be rising to ours, at least not on a consistent basis.

                • So basically what we are hearing are excuses why students don't participate (stolen songs, shocker hand gestures, promotions, etc) instead of students taking charge and offering solutions to improve student participation. The solution has to come from the students which means someone or a group of students are going to have to rise up and be leaders and organize the student section to lead cheers, chants, come up with creative ideas, etc

BTw, if you refuse to do the war song because we "stole" it from another school then you should not participate in the Dudley Do Right song before the game because we "stole" that from Michigan State. The fact of matter is that in college sports most cheers and songs that any school does we're "borrowed" from another school.

Oh, I don't refuse to participate in the song just because of that. I refuse to participate in it because we stole it AND I think the second half of it is dumb.

Even though I wasn't quoted, I can tell a lot of this post was directed at me. I was just offering my observations, and I likely won't have any way to even get tickets after the end of this season, so this act of trying to blame the people making observations is moot in my case. But anyway, I know that offering observations on stuff like this here is likely going to get a bunch of people to tear me apart.

I wonder, if the advancement of technology, has caused a decrease in student attendance - smart phones, tablets, etc.
As bad as ours has been don't take last night as representative. Last year I went to their game versus then #15 UT (my brother is a giant KSU fan, so I was there for him). Let me tell you, under no circumstances would a game vs #15 being such a poor showing in cka. It must have been only 60% full. And they have more student seats (and enrollment) so it looked even worse.

Even at the KU game you could find seats.

Last season, my brother and I, went up the day of the game. We got tickets on StubHub for around $20 each. If KU came to the Chuck, good luck paying under $100 a ticket (yes, I know it would be a rarer occasion, but still)

I'm sure Mr. and Mrs. old WSU fan who never stand will be more than happy to keep paying their SASO contribution even if they're moved over 2 sections.
No I will not It took 12 f-ing years to get mid court seats. I'm in the God-dammed top 400 donors. You move your f- ing seat.
I had season FOOTBALL tix... did you?

Nope, it was not directed at you, and I think you missed the point. The point is let's find some students to rise up as leaders to solve the problem instead of finding excuses. If your circumstances don't allow for this, that is perfectly understandable.

I don't think they are excuses as much as they are pieces to the problem.

Leadership has to come within the university. If they provide students with the opportunity to rise up and be leaders, then it can probably be done.

Right now, I don't think WSU really cares about what the students think.
