There was a definitive emphasis on 'no one in the athletic department gave me this news, these are my sources' in his 10 p.m. report. Something tells me he is not making many friends inside the arena with his breaking news report.
He used to be an intern at ESPN so apparently he still knows somebody there.
If by "bigger things" you mean beaker genitalia then I guess so. Armstrong was in the top 10 biggest phonies and pracks I've ever had the displeasure of being in the same room. With any luck, he's dying a slow death from some horrible venereal disease that is eating it's way from his colon outward.
No, for me bigger things would be regional and pro stuff instead of local sports, or I guess you could say bigger markets. I would probably put Mark Ewing in there as well and probably the Bruce Haertl of late. Trying to think of some other sports guys who went on to do regional and pro stuff, but can't think of any others.
Had forgotten about Mark Allan - thanks SHOXMVC for that reminder. Looked up how long he was at KAKE and it said 15 years - wow. Maybe that's why I couldn't think of ones from KAKE because he was the only I watched :) I think the ones I remember most are the ones who stayed around for years versus just months. I would say change in ownership over the years has something to do with that but news anchors and weather people seem to still stick around a long time still, so maybe it's more salary and Wichita is on the low end for sports people.

Paul Crane was here during AC and Cliff days. Used to say." boom time" whenever they dunked. His schtick was a bit unusual for Wichita, but landed him a job in Dallas for several years...
Not sports guys, but has everyone forgotten about Bill McLain and John Froome? ( I know, I'm dating myself) Oh yes, and Greg Gamer.,
If you remember these, then you should remember my favorite sportscaster, Jack Miller, of KAKE in the late 50's. He sat behind a regular office desk and smoked cigarettes while he gave the sports. Not much to report on besides KC athletics, St. Louis Cardinals and Wichita University Wheatshockers. I loved the Hamm's beer commercial with that big bouncing bear - "Land of Sky Blue Water - Hamm's the Beer Refreshing, Hamm's the Beer Refreshing!" I'm guessing Jack always had a Hamm's close by.
If you take the high road, you won't find much traffic there . . .
