  • OK. Let them have their 15 minutes -- they earned it, they deserve it. Do I think they are taking it a bit far? Well, don't think this is something we would do (especially since it's against a conference foe), but if it's what they want to do, what's the harm? I mean, they made it very clear that it was a sellout crowd! Wow, what we would give for one of those -- oh, wait -----

No one knows how the rest of the conference season is going to play out -- for either team. If they have bragging rights at the end of February, they clearly earned it. Since we have been accused of being the "bullies" of the Valley, does that mean if UNI wins the Valley, we lose that mantle as well?

Lets hope they don't pass the mantle to ISUB tonight.

      • "Passing of the mantle." That's rich, lol. I'll give them credit for this beatdown but don't expect the same result next time. I kind of would like each team to win-out before the rematch though, would make for a very interesting MVC reg-season championship game on senior night.

UNI's lead margin in the second half - +3 points

What does it all mean? I don't know. It looks like to me that the Shockers had a bad hair day for nine minutes.

I don't think I am going to judge the relative worth of the Shocks based upon 9 minutes of play.

          Just sayin'.

          No thrust intended.
Also worth pointing out is that UNI never let off the gas. Even in the last minute, when we had our backups in, UNI still had their starters in. I think this helps prove your point even more.

            Ya, that was interesting.

It'll be interesting on the 28th, that's for sure.
            Deuces Valley.

              • This is really cute guys. You act like UNI is having the first success since joining DI less than 30 years ago. Im not going to sit here and say that UNI is on par with Wichita as far as a program is concerned, we are not. The money you guys have raised and fan base you have is awesome. I wish we didn't have another DI program within 3 hours of us but unfortunately we are the red headed step child. But for you guys to act like UNI is attempting to make their first NCAA tournament this year is ridiculous. You guys had a great 12 month stretch of basketball, congratulations. That is awesome. You were the class of the Valley during that time. From Arch Madness to Arch Madness you guys were second to few in the entire country. Other than that 12 month stretch (you guys are the ones talking about the difference between program and living in the moment) UNI has had just as good of a 10 year stretch as the Shockers. Prior to that I don't really know, frankly im not that old. I know you have a deep history in DI, particularly some great years in the 80's.

The "low major," "superbowl" insults are old and you guys are coming off as sore losers. Move on, you got beat, you actually got the **** kicked out of you. It will be different on Feb 28th im sure. Until then we will just hang on to the three conference titles we have in the last ten years, the three arch madness titles we have in the last ten years, the 3 at large bids we have gotten the last ten years, a sweet sixteen run (where we beat the team that everyone on this board hates). Again, are those stats as good as yours? Who knows, we could argue that all year long. But cut the **** of knocking our program, its not like we're 2008 Drake for crying out loud.

                • wow that was a mouthload. I for one have alot of respect for UNI and Ben Jacobson. No one was rooting any louder that I when they beat Ku to get to the sweet sixteen. We need UNI and otheirs to be good on a national level for the Valley to get the respect nationally that we all want.

I'm not sure you if the above is just a random comment, or an insinuation that WSU has some sort of geographic advantage, but there are actually 4 P5 schools within 2.5 hours of Wichita: K-State (131 mi), KU (163 mi), OSU (128 mi), and OU (177 mi). As a comparative, UNI has 3 within that same drive time: ISU (93 mi), Iowa (89 mi), and Drake (126 mi).

As far as legitimacy in college basketball goes (and therefore fanbase geography and recruiting competition), K-State/KU/OSU/OU > ISU/Iowa/Drake times like infinity. Heck, I could make a quantitative, objective argument that WSU is historically and currently the superior program to ISU, and it wouldn't be that damn hard. And Iowa would have to go back a LONG time to have a leg to stand on. If you are inferring WSU has it easier because Wichita is isolated in your estimation, you are off by quite a large margin.

It is sort of ironic you bring up the red-headed step child analogy, as that is really how it feels for WSU to be in the freaking MVC. We're happy someone else is bringing it again in the Valley, but from a current success perspective, historical success perspective, fan attendance/support perspective, and program spending perspective, WSU really is the metric outlier in the MVC, and it's not even close.

                    • I like UNI a lot. I don't even consider them rivals because they are pretty far away. I'm really just happy they are in the MVC. I'm not dogging on them seriously at all and I don't really think anyone is.

The RESPECT I already had for UNI has a lot to do with why I think the win seems over hyped. This @jegbomb52: guy is right. They have been good for a long period of time. So why dont the rest of the fans up there realize that? Didn't you expect to win this game? I can tell you that I had it down as a loss in my head all year. I did make a pie in the sky prediction that didn't at all reflect my true thoughts but that was for fun.

WSU fans are nothing other than HAPPY to have UNI doing so well. The MVC needs it so much. Not sure why there's a guy here complaining about us laughing at the picture thing. It is just an odd thing for us to find from the other best program in the current MVC.

A couple of things, Cat fan.

1.) Do you have selective memory? Last year was ONE year in a decade of success for WSU. Case in point, last year UNI was a nobody stuck in the middle of a mediocre conference. Same thing the year prior and the year prior to that. In those same 10 years, WSU also has 3 conference titles, a Sweet 16, a Final Four, an undefeated season, a No.1 seed, a #2 National Ranking, countless weeks in the Top 25, a streak of 30 STRAIGHT Valley wins, etc. And that's just going back 10 years. Are you ******* serious? It's not even comparable.

2.) This is a WSU board. Know your place. The players acted like it was a Super Bowl. Your fanbase acted like it was your Super Bowl. Hell, even members of your own local "media" acted like it was your Super Bowl by actively cheering for the Panthers while "working".

3.) Why are you still here? (This goes back to point 2 about it being your Super Bowl and you still being connected to a WSU board during a game with Indiana State you just completed)
                        Deuces Valley.
                        ... No really, deuces.

AP Poll Top 25 Appearances 2005-current:
                          WSU - 49
                          UNI - 14

AP Poll Top 10 Appearances 2005-current:
                          WSU - 18

                          WSU - 4 appearances; 7 wins; seeded #7, #5, #9, #1; 1 F4, 2 S16
                          UNI - 4 appearances; 2 wins; seeded #11, #10, #12, #9; 1 S16

                          Total Program Wins 2005-current:
                          WSU - 236
                          UNI - 210

Median Final NCAA RPI 2005-end 2014:
                          WSU - 37
                          UNI - 76

                          Median Home Attendance 2005-end 2014:

                          UNI - 4,730

                          Men's Basketball Revenues 2013-2014:
                          WSU - $5.6M
                          UNI - $2.3M

                          Head Coach Salary:
WSU - $1.75M with $500K-$750K of performance incentives
                          UNI - $575K-$625K (?)

I have real sources for the above (college poll archive, USDoE, NCAA, etc.), should you require them. I don't have any MVC stats though, sorry. I don't care about the MVC (nor do many WSU fans), and most of us derive no program worth based on what we do in this cesspool conference.

                            • What's the fuss? We got man-handled by UNI on Saturday. They had a very good game plan, and even better execution. We had no answer for Tuttle. UNI is having a very good year and it could turn out to be something very special. Now, I think the game in the Chuck will be very different, and there is a potential of a rubber match in STL. I have a ton of respect for their coach, their players and their program. I like their fan base, they are nothing like the low life redbird and bluejay fans. If they want to commemorate their victory and sell-out crowd by selling a picture, what's it to us? Actually, when you think about it, it is quite a complement to the Shocker program. Stay classy!
