  • Serious question. Exactly how many turnovers will Deon Mitchell get?

Oh and is there a way to quantify how many hero ball attempts he has into a stat category?

I predict a close game, with NIU holding on by 3 due to a last second flop.

Nevermind. Eff it. WSU wins 86-48.
You think they will score 48?

I'm gonna have to say it.

I AGREE WITH FEVER'S SIDE OF THIS ARGUMENT. HE IS CORRECT HERE AND IS ARGUING WITH A TROLL. IN THIS INSTANCE, FEVER IS NOT THE TROLL, THE OTHER GUY IS.

There. I did it. Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

I can guarantee, we have a better chance of holding them to 48 then we do of scoring 86.

Also, I just want to say, I wish you guys would quit your bickering. Every thread gets ruined by a few posters. This is a gigantic game. Instead of pissing on each other how about we actually discuss the game.

How about match ups? Tekele on Mitchell/Waspun or Fred? I kind of expect Tekele-Waspun, Fred-Bohanon, Ron-Morgan. Thoughts?

            • For those interested in basketball and how it's played, a very nice article on Grantland.

(There are of course issues with this piece, but I'm not going to complain, because FFS, it's seems that's all people want to do around here.)

              • I'd like to see Fred continue to deny the ball to the opposing point guard as long as possible. That really seems to throw our opponents off. NIU has very good shooters, so I think trying to make all of them become ball handlers could make a huge difference. They may not turn it over much, but could drastically throw off their shooting rhythm.
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take....

.....but, statistically speaking, you miss 99% of the shots you do take.

Completely agree, way too much meaningless bickering on almost all threads to make the few thoughtful and meaningful ones worth finding.

It will be very interesting to see how 3G decides to match up, especially who he puts Tekele up against. Not a shutdown one type of player game here and I can't see him wasting Tekele's talents but putting him on Bohanan. I think Fred will get Bohanan and he better not help off, which Fred has a tendancy to do when not guarding on the ball. Mitchell and Washpun will drive you everytime they get it and we will need Tekele's size and strengh to make it difficult for these guys to get in the lane. Benny J rarely puts Mitchell and Washpun on the court together at the same time since they don't necessarily shoot the ball well and do not compliment each other well. Ron will matchup with Morgan and if you need help on the driver's this is where the help should come from. Morgan is the X factor for UNI if he plays well it makes them a much better team.

As slow a tempo as UNI plays, anything that gets them into their offense later than they want has the potential to put them into a lot of late shot clock situations.

                        • I think we'll press at every opportunity to get them out of what they want to do. Unless trailing, it will have nothing to do with trying to turn them over and everything to do with taking away what they want to do.

This game will come down to 1 major item....can we slow Tuttle without doubling? And there's a difference between help and doubling. If we have to double, then they'll find open 3 point shooters and even though they've been sporadically effective from 3 this year, as sure as the day is long, they'll hammer home one after the other against us Saturday. If we can play them straight up, we'll win.

My hope is that all of them bring just a little of their best to the game tomorrow. If they do, we win, regardless of Darius's back or foul trouble.
I don't dismiss your thoughts about the inconsistency of the freshmen and I agree with that, but I think the difference with Tevin is that he is a JUCO and with that, a bit more mature and, hopefully, more consistent. I'm taking a runner on that, I know, but I believe Tevin's biggest issue to date has been his lack of understanding the sets and his role on both sides of the court.

I'm definitely not saying that his new-found playing time means we're over the hump or will be the deciding factor in tomorrow's game. And I don't expect him to start getting 8-12 minutes a game. But I do hope that his recent playing time is a sign that he can finally contribute on game day as opposed to practice. And his production thus far has been superior, granted, it's a small sample size, to that of Zach Brown.

This is an interesting point, and I think an important one. They run a lot of offense through Tuttle. He leads their team in assists at nearly 3.1apg. But he also has 1 more turnover than assist. Should be interesting to see how well we dig and disrupt.
