I think we just discovered Conner's punishment the rest of the season. Driving a mop.

Here's the deal with MopGate. The blame for the situation lies solely on the Athletic Department. They're the ones sitting back, collecting a sponsor's paycheck, grabbing a few kids, slapping a couple t-shirts on them with said sponsor's logo, and telling them to essentially floor-manage a game. Floor-managing by 6-year olds, that is. Now, I didn't see Marshall's reaction, but judging by some of the reactions on here, especially by a few posters that are as accurate on the eye as they come, I imagine it wasn't pretty. But from his perspective, in the in-the-game moment, he's just trying to protect his kids. He doesn't want to see a Ron Baker or Fred VanVleet, or Tekele Cotton, or anybody slip on the floor and destroy an ankle. That wouldn't be good for a multitude of reasons. This certainly isn't the first time we've had ball boys completely look lost when asked to mop up the sweat spots during a game. But it should be the last. The Athletic Department is responsible for the kids during their time at games. Somebody either isn't doing their job or doing it very poorly. If they saw Marshall's reaction, I imagine some things are being looked at to negate that from happening again. Either that or Marshall will make it a point of doing so.
As for the game itself, it was an exact carbon copy of last year's snoozefest at home against Loyola that nearly resulted in the exact same score (57-45 last year). I just don't think the guys were up for this one. Considering the multiple layups, dunks, and free throws missed, add that in with Darius and Shaq seeing little game time (Darius practically none), we still came out with a double-digit victory. Ho, hum. At least we aren't a Top 25 team like Miami, losing on our home floor by 23 to a conference cellar dweller. (They been beat down multiple times at home this year). You can't play 40 minutes of perfect basketball for 30 straight games in a year. It doesn't happen. But when you don't, and you still win, it's always a plus.
Take the win and let's move on to, well, fittingly, another Super Bowl.Deuces Valley.
... No really, deuces.

FORTY and ZERO. Friggin ZERO.
It's impossible for me to imagine ever replacing winners like Cotton, VanVleet, Baker and Wessel.

Sounds like there should be lots of phone calls today to Dougie's show asking to talk about college baseball. You know...since he wanted to discuss it yesterday.
Perhaps ask about the pre-season Top 25 and who he thinks is the best conference. Again, since he knows exactly what his listeners want to hear about by bringing up tidbits from around the sports world.

But it is a lesson to verify instead of assume. Gottleib doesn't need any help to look like an ass.

Great post Fev.
As long as we are complaining, there were way too many empty seats in the student section, their chants are old and tired, and way too many people in the stands didn't have on Shocker gear. Frankly outside of the hardcore 7k or so, I question whether the rest of the "fans" really deserve this great team and understand how special this time is.

If that assumption is close to reality, then the empty seats were kind of an anomaly.

Don't know what the latest is on DC's back but if rest helps I say give him as much as
possible between now and March. At least his limited minutes gives GM the ability
to experiment with some of the bench bigger fellows. I thought TG and RN both had
good minutes last night. I'd like to see them both get ten minutes a game to see
who can be consistent. Right now I think both have great upsides but need that game
experience. Sure, they will make mistakes but that's how you learn and get better.
I think BOTH have very good skills, both have good motors, both really get themselves
in good position defensively but both seem to have a slow first step and lack that
basketball intuition/anticipation/recognition of their man's intentions. That comes with PT.
I like BW's defense and rebounding but just isn't any threat offensively like the other two.
