Although I generally agree, last nights need for mopping up sweat would not have been avoided even with a competent adult overseeing the situation and here is why. Fred obviously slipped on the sweat around the free throw area at the Shocker end of the court. The live action then progressed towards the Loyola basket. There is no way, given even a reasonable training of 6-10 year olds, that an overseeing adult could have coordinated the kid to run out to the free throw area and mop the sweat up before anticipating the live action transitioned back to the Shocker basket. Absolute unreasonable expectations...period. Only a very savvy, paying attention adult could have pulled it off last night. HCGM is certainly spot on with the expectation of mopping up the sweat to potentially avoid injury to any player, or official for that manner, he just could have handled it differently. I don't think any of us doubt he has had a conversation about it with the powers that be already.

Here is my backseat quarterback opinion of the appropriate procedure moving forward. Because there is a season-long promotion already in place for the "ball boys" assignment on a game-to-game basis, WSU can't just scrap it. Have 2 WSU paid responsible adults (one at each end of the court) sitting by the 2 crews of ball boys. During time outs and dead balls, have the kids do their mopping duties like normal. If a situation during live action, as was the case last night, comes up, the adult overseers over ride the kids, grab a mop and jump into action. Simple as that...problem solved. Next!!!

Are you serious...if so why. I guess a ban is board/sport specific...who knew.

      • Did Wessel score yesterday? I didn't check the box score, but I don't recall him scoring. He does good on defense and hustling and all that, but at some point, he's going to have to score more consistently so we aren't playing 4 on 5.

It's self imposed for personal reasons. But the probation handed down today seriously chaps my ass.

I agree with you. he missed some bunnies and got rejected a couple times underneath. He plays great D but he's got to put it in the basket when he has a point blank shot.

Everyone with the exception of Fred, Ron, Tevin and Tekele (he even missed a break-away dunk) couldn't throw it in the ocean; I'm willing to give him and the rest of them a pass. Yes, Loyola was giving Wessel a lot of space and he wasn't even close on any of his attempts and may have even air-balled a lay-up. Overall, I'm not sure I've seen such horrible lay-up misses; many of them weren't even close. "I'm not worried."

                  0-5, 0-2, 0-0

In other words, a big fat zero.

I want more Tevin. That's what I want. He had 9 minutes last night. 2-3, 1-1, 0-0. Five points. Four RB and 3 ORB.

So predictable; you just knew someone was going to have to pay for the mess at North Carolina.

                    • I volunteer to either mop the floor or work with the kids. I don't need to be paid. I will be responsible. I'd even pay for a GA ticket if that was required. If there's any training time involved, I do not ask to be paid for that. I just want to do my part to ensure player safety.

I assume it also the responsibility of the referees to be watching for these situations and to stop play and take care of the matter as well.

I think HCGM is starting to view him as the post player equivalent to Nick Wiggins.

A little microwave never hurts off the bench.

I was in line to see the facial expressions (Bobby Knight like), etc and I can tell you everyone near me had a bad reaction.

One more thing... HCGM and the staff clearly wanted to go offense for defense with Glass and RK. They forgot or almost forgot throughout the second half. If million dollar guys forget to do simple things in the heat of the moment they should try to be a little more lenient with the six year olds.
For sure, Coach Marshall did not go offense for defense with Rashard Kelly.

I sorta believe the best 4 is sitting on the bench most of the time.
