What if you are trying to get the ball across half court to beat a 10 second violation and you are not going to make it. Can you run back to the opponents basket and miss a layup to restart the 10 seconds?
    No.

    That is all.
Above all, make the right call.

Sometimes the bench minutes are quite high and the bench players hardly shoot the ball.

      Examples:
Loyola game - 5 attempts in 38 minutes
UE game - 9 attempts in 58 minutes
MSU game - 13 attempts in 71 minutes
I think the important thing to remember about the bench is that we don't need them to put up consistently big scoring numbers to win. We need them to defend and rebound like shockers and then they can worry about their offense.

And you're right, we will need them to step up and score at various times but Shaq, Rashard, and Z Brown have had games where they made solid scoring contributions so they are capable. I know Henderson and Holland haven't proven it in game yet but I've seen enough of both to know it's a matter of time before they start knocking down shots.

I guess I look at it as a positive that the young guys know their role on the team and stick to it. Could some of the newcomers score more points with more opportunities? I have no doubt. But this team is driven offensively by four really talented, experienced upper classmen studs. If the other guys can do their part (like Evan already does) by defending, rebounding, hustling, taking care of the ball, etc then the Four Horsemen can take them for quite a ride.

That part is all I needed. The ball did hit the rim, but it was clearly a try for a rebound that caused the ball to hit the rim and not a try for a goal.

          • Let's see if anyone gets what reply this is towards ...

I was off by a couple of games, but Glass stepped up given the chance. Coach must have hired Scratch from Ice Age to dig him out to get on the court.

            • Fun game to watch last night and a fun thread to read today. Thank guys.

I agree. I said a while ago he reminds me of a taller more offensively potent (relative to the beginning of their careers) Ramon Clemente.

I'm not 100% sure why he doesn't see the court more and I'm too afraid to ask coach about it. Lol. I just assume that the good things I see on the court like his nose for the ball and hustle are probably outweighed by defensive lapses, lax ball security, or whatever it may be and when he gets those things figured out he'll play more.

Tevin not Tevis; I agree with your position, Tevin was my choice to be a starter this year. I liked his game in JUCO land and thought he would replace some if not all of the game points Cle took to the NBA.

                  • Glass has certainly had his moments of promise, but he's still played just 39 minutes in nine games all season. Bush W is the next lowest among the scholarship players at 103 minutes, so Tevin has a lot of catching up to do.

                    • Two quick points from what I saw on the MoSt forum:

Was that really the biggest home loss in MoSt history?

Is there any foul on a defender for putting a hand up to obstruct the vision of the ball handler the way Cotton has been recently? I can't imagine there would be considering it hasn't been called, and I've seen similar to defense played against Kobe before in the NBA, but I don't know for sure.

                      • Kelly was great. Evan was not great. Odd, but really good team this year. No clue what to expect each game, other than they seem to find a way to win.... can't ask for much more than that.

Thanks. Missed that chunk of the thread somehow.

How long has Cotton been doing that? I noticed it for the first time against Evansville.

Evan had 3 points, 4 rebounds and a block in 16 minutes. Pn a per 40 basis, that's 7.5 pts, 10 rebounds and 2.5 blocks. I'll take that from the 5th starter any time. I saw two or more times that he made the pass immediately before the assist, too.

                              • Just looking over the box score from the MSU game tonight.

                                A couple of stats that should make 3G smile: Rebounds: WSU 17O + 23D = 40; MSU 9O + 15D = 24 and FT Shooting: 13-16 = 81.3%
