Good enough for me....let the hate swell in you....it makes you strong and gives you power!

I see it as a win win. If a concerted effort was made to bring them on board and they do, Gregg wins and maybe some good mojo is created.

If not, that's good too, and trust me, 3G knows about it, and that will be fun too. And it will confirm their dickish status as a fanbase that would rather diss a coach than help kids.

    Seems all good to me.

    • I'm tempted to start voting for Matt Painter just so Iowa St doesn't win...their fans are getting annoying.

I have a K-State grad buddy who always seemed to appreciate Iowa State, being a land-grant school and all, as one of his other favorites...until he moved to Iowa a few years ago. He despises them now, saying that they are so arrogant without actually having done anything. My buddy isn't necessarily a WSU guy, but he loves it when the 'Clones get all butt-hurt at WSU's attention and even at UNI (they have very odd inferiority complex towards UNI, he says). He was almost hoping WSU lost to UNI to see people's reaction when WSU still got 5 or 6 seed (still too high in the 'Clones' eyes) but looks forward to the carnage on Selection Sunday with WSU in line for a REALLY good seed.

That said, since Wichita/WSU has a smaller pool of people than a larger university, it might be good for Gregg to choose an organization with national appeal for the next contest. Hoiberg using the American Heart Association is a great choice because he will still get his Iowa State supporters to vote for him, but he might also votes from chapters supporting AHA around the country. Of course, donation monies are probably more important to WCH than national organizations. It is possible that $15,000 is a bigger deal for WCH than $100,000 is for AHA.

Just brainstorming some ideas to get 3G higher up next year.
I'll throw my two cents in. I really like our coach selecting a local charity. I like backing our local community and, as such, supporting WCH is a big reason for me to involve family and friends. Frankly, $15,000, probably even $100,000, is a drop in the bucket for some of the charities selected by the coaches. Those large charities have a national profile and many other sources to attract money. I loved Jimmy V, what he did for his charity, and what others are now doing for his charity. However, I think it's somewhat of a cop-out for coaches to pick that charity when there is so much other college basketball publicity for this worthy cause already.

For this "competition", it should be centered around more local-type charities that are very worthy, but do not have media presence to help their own worthy cause. I'm split on a coach using his own family foundation as well. If the foundation keeps a lot of the funds locally, fine. If most of its funds go to larger, national causes, not so much.

I guess I like the old "We are family" approach that can add so much more to benefit our community and area.

          • My guess is people are voting for Hoiberg because they are Iowa St fans not because he selected the American Heart Assoc. I agree with @ShockTalk: that I get more excited about supporting a local charity instead of a national monolithic organization like the American Heart Assoc.

            • I don't know this as a fact but I suspect that Hoiberg may have received a huge boost by being the focal point of the public marketing Infiniti did related to this charity challenge. And I have to admit I got a kick out the dance off commercial and video but that was a lot of free pub for Hoiberg.

It can't be done year, but next year someone needs to fund them so they can get this information out to the media.
It doesn't take much money to put out press releases, appearances on local TV and radio programs, send emails to constituents, post messages on their website, etc.

                • Just voted a little while ago and both Beilein and Marshall had 8%, but Marshall was in 4th place.

Good idea. Bad karma to skip voting on game day.

                              • Marshall is now only at 5%. I'm surprised he's still in 3rd place. Beilein is also at 5%, but probably not far behind.
