Really, EO was never a huge contributor. I love EO, but not a difference maker for us at any point. IMHO we have plenty of talent to be right where we need to be in March. We just need a couple of months of seasoning.

SM, RK and RN are going to be more than capable by then. I am not counting on BW for any huge contributions. TG. Nope. Feel for the dude.

We will be fine, especially if DC can stay out of foul trouble a little better.

I love this team. I really do. Yeah, we dropped a game to UTAH. So what. The 3 headed freshman inside monster will continue to grow and get better. Count on it!
EO allowed our guards to over-play everything. He was a game changer for that team. Opposing guards couldn't turn the corner when he hedged against screens (he got so low and his wingspan basically stopped penetration) and he owned the paint. Pick any game from that run, note how WSU played defense. It has changed substantially with the loss of EO..

So WSU is the super bowl for big east teams now?

            • I watched a portion of the SH v Rutgers game. WOW! They are Kentucky good! wait....they were playing Rutgers, who might not be able to beat half of the MVC. Whitehead has talent, but I saw him get tunnel vision and force things for short stretches. Their bigs are not going to cause significant problems. The guards can shoot it, but I'm not sure they can handle pressure well as I saw some sloppy turnovers. Game was out of hand so I'm sure the focus had slipped for them. In the end I think Cotton will frustrate Mr. Whitehead and the other guards do just as they will all season and outplay the opposition.

              • Good fair discussion on the Seton Hall board about this game. I'd say predictions are running about 50-50. Talented freshmen scare me, sometimes they're too dumb to know they're in over their heads.

At least Rutgers was only getting beaten on the court, not by their coaches!

                          Great analysis.

Care to list the reasons why you feel this way from a BIG EAST perspective?

I give credit for what EO brought to the table on defense. However, the game is played at both ends and while it's great to talk about a 7 footer who once played for us, we have a 7 footer who currently does. Unfortunately, BushWam has not shown he can be an impact player at either end of the court. I know anyone who criticizes a player gets blasted on these boards, but I think everyone can see how much of a "project" he is. Bush was supposed to be better offensively than EO but not as athletic and efficient on d. The problem is, from what I have seen so far, he is just as bad offensively as EO and has none of the upside on defense. I mean, at least he can catch the ball, but after that he can't do much with it. I know he just started playing ball not that long ago, but only so much improvement can be made in his short time here, and I think his starting point is too far away from the finish line on the improvement curve for him to make an impact here. NOW FLAME ME!!!!!!!!

No flameage here. I agree with your assessment of the young man. He's definitely a work in progress and it's pretty clear to me he's got a pretty high ceiling if he continues to listen to 3G and the rest of the staff. I had very low expectations for Bush from the get go, especially knowing that he's not played basketball for any length of time, particularly when one compares his experience with those of probably 95% of the other bigs he's coming up against. I suspect he'll average no more than about 8 to 9 minutes a game through the season and that may be okay. We just need someone to go in there and spell Nurger and Shaq and DC when they get tired and/or in foul trouble. If 3G can coax 10 minutes out of the big guy by the end of the season, I'd call that a real coup.

No flame here. I took plenty of matches for my comments about EO, which I still love the kid off the floor. Bush-wam will be as invisible on the floor as EO's first year. Probably equally so next year, but the year after...watch out.
