Up late last night with a crying baby.... Watched game film and was pleasantly surprised.

I think altitude had a major impact in our perimeter defense.

Many of Utah's plays were made against Cotton and Baker on blow-bys you just don't see. In past year's, some of them would have been erased at the rim. Going forward, I think his can be limited and was a result of slightly tired legs.

I think there were some interesting officiating drcisions in overtime. We lost seconds on the foul after Wessels miss. HCGM has to be on that. Utah's second to last basket would have been a travel anywhere (biddy ball, Y lunch game and the NBA). The granted timeout after Fred poked the ball away and Cotton stole it was interesting (Shockref - what does it take to have possession in that situation).

I still hate the rule that allows a coach on anyone on the bench to call timeout. In the old days, the request had to come from a player on the floor. I wish it would go back to that. Coaches shouldn't play the game, just prepare the players, determine the lineup and instruct in timeouts. [rant over]

Hey, proshox -- I thought the same thing about on Taylor's late basket for Utah; as I watched I thought he traveled as soon as he made his move to the basket and was a little surprised it wasn't called. Glad it wasn't just my late night eyes seeing it that way. Too bad the refs didn't see it that way as well (I wonder if it would have mattered for three guys to have seen the action instead of two).

And, Shock Therapy -- a horrible what? A "horrible because love?" What the...?

we actually led about 70% of the game. They made their run midway in the 2nd half and strung some 3s together and we didn't panic.

I actually don't find the percentage of time led during a game to be a very useful stat. I definitely don't think it necessarily has a lot of correlation with a team controlling the game. I think the Utah game is a perfect example why.

The Shox led 10-0 a mere 4 minutes into the game due to a good start. Utah outscored WSU by 17 over the middle 35 minutes of the game as the Shox were down 7 with barely over a minute to go. The Shox won the final minute. We can ignore OT as it was basically 5 minutes of even play.

Basically, the Shox dominated about 5 minutes of regulation and Utah won the other 34. The Shox had 2 bigs runs. Utah won the majority of the minutes. To me, the fact the Shox led 70% of the way was simply due to the timing of their 10-0 run (the very beginning) and not an indicator of much else.

As soon as the ref is healthy and has officially (no pun intended) survived the blow with no long term issues, is it fair game to start laughing about it? And obviously, before I get roasted, I mean laughing in a "what in the world just happened/how did he even do that?" kind of way. I mean Shaq went up for a routine jump ball, came down in a normal way and happened to hit the official on the head by complete accident without any use of excessive force. The ref was knocked out and may have received a concussion from Shaq's regular, unintentional weight and strength. I have never, and probably will never again see something like this in a game. Exactly how strong is Shaq? Also, Shaq is a freshman. Exactly how strong will Shaq be as a fifth year senior? Good grief.

I didn't notice the travel by Taylor live but just watched the overtime again and was able to see it on the replay ESPN showed during the curious timeout at 19 seconds. The announcers even commented that Ron was fouled on the head in the following play during his shot. All of those things together working in Utah's direction, in a strange way, remind me of the all the variables that went our way in that incredible finish we had at Illinois State some time ago. If you remember the jump kick to TC's face you'll know what I'm talking about!

I have a serious problem with one of the academic staff at Utah so I really wanted us to win this game...That being said, I agree with most of you that if I got to choose a game this year that our shox could lose (to a ranked opponent), and got to choose how we lost it (by one point in overtime), this was the one:upset:

Now here is some valuable information. I only know of one professional broadcaster, who pronounces "incomparable" correctly. It has five syllables, not four.

Oddly enough, the broadcaster is Mike Golic. I have yet to hear a politician or news/opinion broadcaster pronounce it correctly.
