I love this old man. Years ago I hated him. But then I came to realize his enthusiasm and passion are real. I figured he was just being loud to put on a show. Nope. That is just the only way he knows how to live. He likes Duke. He likes UNC. I like WSU. If I had his job I would be be just as happy go lucky as he is and I'd be constantly slobbering over WSU. And it isn't like Duke and UNC are horrible teams and he has no reason to be excited about these great programs. He loves college basketball so it stands to reason he is going to like the good teams. I've also learned that I like passion -- this is why I like listening to MK so much.

But his off the court stuff is where I've really come to love him. He cares so much about raising money for The V Foundation and college basketball keeps him alive. If ESPN fired him he would be dead within 72 hours. I love that passion. I love Dickie V -- even if I do mute him sometimes when watching him.

the last game that i remember that dickie v called at wichita state, in the 80's, the shockers lost.

the last game he called involving wichita state, period, was vs louisville in the final four. he was all in for his fellow paisan, rick pitino.

nothing against dickie v, but DO NOT expect good luck, young superstitious types, just because he is calling the game here. he's hardly been a shocker good-luck charm (in spite of his noble pediatric cancer battle/fight! son of a bitches!). it might be something we have to overcome.

Let's hope the word gets back to Fran Fraschilla. I've always thought Fraschilla was somewhat favorably disposed toward WSU, so maybe his gaffe regarding The Rug's scheduling practices was just that, a slip, and he can amend it to say, "except for playing at Wichita State."

Self and Marshall can be compared to school kids in this sense. Marshall is the kid who says "meet me after school and let's settle this." Anytime, anywhere. Then you have Self who isn't even the kid who talks trash and says "meet me outside after school and let's settle this" but doesn't show up. He is more like the kid who pretends there is nothing going on and takes the long way around back to avoid ever even seeing Marshall so he doesn't have to face him at all. Then when someone says "hey why'd you take the long way to avoid that other guy?" he makes up a story like "I always go that way" or "I had to go see such and such teacher after school"
