Next time you are in Koch look around. This is an aging group at Shocker games. Big Dog remembers the Tulsa games of the 80's and the legendary Iowa game.
He knows how loud for long periods of time it use to be. I attended those games and the recent FSU game. The student section is fine but they are only 10 %
of the crowd. What puts noise over the top is the general public. That is just not happening any more when the average age is over 50 years old.

That's not how I recall it. I thought the crowd spontaneously responded with a loud uproar in recognition of AC. Big Dawg was enjoying the response and wanted to boost the energy and egged it on with his gestures.

I haven't heard it get that loud in two or three years.
        This.

To get loud the crowd has to have some spark provided by the team. Some glimmer of hope or hint that they are about to explode. It took 35 minutes to happen last night.

Crowds get amped for the Shockers. Not for an announcer.
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take....

.....but, statistically speaking, you miss 99% of the shots you do take.

The 1st half the crowd did lack energy, but as has been pointed out that had a lot to do with the Shocks play and the overall lack of flow to the game. In the 2nd half I thought the crowd was trying real hard to raise the energy level and when things got going it erupted. I thought the students did a good job. They do lack creativity and organization, but they are enthusiastic. I am surprised that there weren't many signs at the game Seems like last year there were a lot more signs at the ESPN games.

Price (or cost) of success? Do you want the 90's back? If so, there will be plenty of seating for the "general public", but I don't think it will be louder (due to the product on the court).

That "older crowd" of long time, loyal fans is a big reason that they say WSU travels so well.

            Suggestions?

Hard for the crowd to be hootin' and hollerin' when you are down 11 points. Nothing seemed to go right until the last few minutes. That being said, the crowd was great then.

Would it have been nice to have hime come to the STL game instead, where everything was clicking? Absolutely. Not every game can be like that though. I'm just glad he came at all.

I think he will be back BABY!

Definitely not how i saw it. I saw him as trying to get crowd going. Even when some got up and started cheering from his gestures there were some sitting down still. You could tell he was disappointed in the enthusiasm of the crowd.

I will second this. The crowd was old in the 90s (like 75+ years old). Now we have an "old" crowd in their 50s. We are getting younger.

Uh, @ShockTalk: you mentioned the decade that shall never be named, aka our college years for many on this fine forum. I could show up 15 minutes after tip and sit on the fourth or fifth row. Back then the student section was the opposite end of the arena. Seating and ticket issues are good problems to have for a program. Oh, the 90's, it was what it was, never go back!

                      • There was nothing to cheer for until the late surge. End of story.

I actually thought the crowd tried a couple times to will the team to get going in the 2nd half, but Alabama kept answering everything thrown at them.

Agreed. This is no different then what would happen at Duke, MSU, UK, etc. either.

Sometimes the opposing team just sucks the air out of the gym. Luckily, the Shox found a way to fill it back up!

                          • The crowd was just fine and if you were watching on TV it is very difficult, if not impossible, to evaluate the crowd since the crowd noise is so filtered and muted out.

The issue may be more with some of our expectations. Perfection is great to strive for but rarely realized.

Exactly. The crowd is always much louder in person than you perceive in the TV broadcast. They have to do this in the sound mix I would assume so that the announcers don't sound ridiculous.

Honestly, I thought the crowd did great in the second half yesterday. WSU was down what appeared to be an insurmountable amount late, and the crowd was doing a pretty solid job at willing the team along in the face of bleak probabilities, in spite of the fact that it felt like Alabama was answering hard fought 2's with 3's for much of the half. At 99% of the other programs in this country there would be no air left to let out, but Shocker fans were still bringing it.
