Utah is favored by 2.5 points. This is the first time Wichita State has been Vegas underdogs since @ St Louis last season. I say the Shockers pull the upset, 68-65.

Outside of SDSU, Utah has not played a very strong schedule to date. Per Pomeroy, their SOS currently ranks 336th. WSU's SOS is 49. Obviously this will improve as they upgrade their quality of opponents over the next few games. They rank very well in both offense and defense efficiency. I will take our guards over theirs every day. The x-factors are Carter, Morris and Kelly. Strong play by any combination of two or more of these three and I like our chances. Particular emphasis will be rebounding advantage and avoiding foul trouble. I give the edge to the Shockers due to our defensive pressure and our ability to control the pace of the game. I think the newcomers will follow the lead of our veterans and maintain composure in the hostile environment.

We need to make our freethrows,

Shockers 67 - 60 in a very tight game until the end.

We are playing a top 25 team in a tough road environment? Yes. But this isn't an ordinary team. This is the eighth ranked road warriors! Do you really think that our ranking is a product of not playing anyone? Because I don't.

            Rhymes with moot -- 63
Best guards in the land -- 69

Ute fan here. I watched the SDSU game in its entirety and what to clarify a couple of things. Utah led at halftime, 18-17 but fell behind by about 8 in the middle part of th 2nd half because they couldn't hit anything (including their FT's). Yes, Utah shot very poorly throughout the game except in the last two minutes when they made a run to pull it within two. Everyone needs to remember, this was a road game for Utah in a hostile arena which has become known as one of the toughest environments in college bball.

Both teams were stellar defensively in that game. Utah's freshman center, Poetl, had 12 rebounds and 7 blocks against them so SDSU is not superior to Utah defensively or athletically. What it really came do was SDSU hit their FT's down the stretch and Utah shot them poorly throughout the game. If that game had been played at Utah, I really think Utah wins.

If Utah struggles at the line against WSU like they did against SDSU (and a couple of other games this year), I am afraid the result will be similar. If Poetl and the team shoots 70-75% +, I like Utah's chances of getting the W. Should be a great game. Utah hoops has been down since Majerus left so we are enjoying the ride back up and games like tonight's are what coollege basketball is all about.

I watched quite a bit of the SDSU v. Utah game. I saw a few things that would concern me as a Utes fan.

Length and strong defense left Utah frazzled and completely disrupted their offense, overall strength to battle, and the ability to defend well in transition.

These things will be x2 tonight.

                  Shox - 69
                  Utes - 52

If Wessel starts I wonder who guards Jakob Poeltl . Carter would have his hands full and is prone to foul trouble if he draws that assignment.
Am anxious to see how Kelly plays tonight. If he and Shaq can rebound and defend we win.

This is a great road test for our team with 8 new players. An asset that has set our team apart from most is we have been road warriors in the past.

Expecting the unexpected will be crucial. Our team defense is what seems to jump-start this teams success. Tonight, rebounding and making

throws will also be of essence. If we do have foul trouble, our bench will have a great opportunity to run interference for us. With the altitude,

our bench will for sure be called on anywho.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

I'm just excited to wake up to a gameday where the final outcome is more than the tiniest bit in doubt. Winning easily is fun to a point, but it is great to finally have a true challenge in front of the Shox. I haven't had a good "pace around in front of my TV like a fool and hold my breath on every freethrow" type of TV watching experience in quite a while. I'm looking forward to it tonight.

Although of course, if the Shox go out and just handle Utah easily, I won't be complaining. :poster_wsu:

One thing Marshall is NOT good at: providing close, scary, emotional, memorable games regularly. He is really bad at that. He gives you just a handful of them each year. :) What he IS good at is consistency, domination, smokage and winning percentage.
I'm with you, but I have this sneaking suspicion that he will "let me down" again, even in this one.

We know what we're going to get from our trio of stud guards, but I think tonight we see a young guy step up. I see Shaq or Kelly surprising us with a solid game. I also think tonight is the first time we watch the shocks battle back from a slow start and early deficit to grind out a win.

                            Shox -- 58
                            Utah -- 54

The real damn question is, how am I supposed to work and then burn time for hours until gametime? Ahhh

SDSU was Utah's second game and as I stated before, a very hostile road environment. If you really watched the game, you would know Utah's length and athleticism bothered SDSU as much as SDSU's may have bothered Utah. Utah had more rebounds and more blocks so your comments don't really give the full picture of what Utah brings from a size, athleticism, and defensive standpoint.

One thing I am confident of is that Utah will have the advantage in the paint and interior against WSU. WSU has some very good guards but Utah counters with all PAC-12 player and defender, Delon Wright who will likely have Baker for most of the game. Wright is 6'5" so he has the size and athleticism to slow Baker. I have seen Baker play and know how good and tough he is. That said, Wright is pretty damn good himself so it may come down to that matchup and which one of those players has the better night offensively and defensively.

Expect Utah to try to pound it inside to their bigs like Jacob Poetl, Chris Reyes, and Dallin Bachynski to try to exploit the size advantage. Poetl has struggled at the line this year but as I stated before, I think he may be there a lot tonight (if he avoids early foul trouble) and if Utah shoots over 70% at the line, I think they have a great shot at getting the win. If Uyah shoots poorly from line ala SDSU or defends the perimeter poorly, I give the Shockers the advantage.

As this a Utah home game and Utah plays pretty well at home, don't expect another shooting night as poor as what some may have seen at SDSU. Where WSU will need to try to take advantage is by forcing TO's and turning those into points. Utah has been somewhat turnover prone this season and last so that may also play a significant role in who wins this game.

I realize your post was a lot of bravado. I respect WSU as much has anyone having seen them play in person but if you thinking the Shockers win tonight by 17+, you are going to be disappointed. I think it goes to the wire and will come down to TO's, free throws, and who gets the best of the Baker/Wright matchup.
