The teams who bought Bradley this year got shortchanged no doubt.

I have a good friend who graduated from Newman and is still very active with the school. He told me the Newman AD said they would get about $12,000 for playing WSU and they are very happy to get it. So not only does it save a hit to the RPI it is also much more economical then buying a 250+ D-1 opponent.

Newman beat Emporia State 86-80 at home on Tuesday and they play Washburn tonight in Wichita. He said Newman's guards are pretty quick, aren't shy about launching the 3-ball and like to run when they can. He said they were not a very big team, however.

The starters in the ESU game included:
                Ryan McCarthy 6-2 175 Sr G (7 Points, 5 Rebounds, 4 Assists vs ESU)
                Cortrael Colbert 6-2 170 Jr G (13 Points, 7 Assists vs ESU)
Reggie Baker 6-4 175 Jr G (19 Points vs ESU)
                Jeremy Espinoza 6-4 210 Sr F (6 Points, 4 Assists vs ESU)
                James Pegues 6-6 220 Jr F (15 Points, 4 Rebounds vs ESU)

                The primary reserves were:
                Luka Vermezovic 6-9 230 Fr C (14 Points, 8 Rebounds vs ESU)
Kevin Sexton 6-0 170 Jr G (7 Points vs ESU)
Kramer Ammons 6-4 185 Fr G (It's fitting that Newman has a Kramer)

Maybe they will start the 6-9 Serbian via Sunrise against the Shockers. Looks like their only real size.

In the ESU game Newman shot 50% from the floor (23-35 inside the arc and 5-21 outside) and they knocked down a very good 25-32 from the FT line for 78%.

                Newman - ESU Box Score

Do you remember the near fight between the Newman coach(Skinner, maybe?) and the Marymount coach(Cochran, maybe?)...had to be late 70s, early 80s...on tv news that night...just a piece of Newman 'trivia' that I can't even recall correctly...:)

To borrow a little Charles Barkley, I don't know anything about Newman, but Newman's in trouble. 92-45.

This game is good for everyone involved. Paycheck for Newman. No RPI drag for WSU. Youngens get more PT (not that they already haven't). Marshall works on problem areas. Nothing bad that I see. It could be a lot worse. WSU could be playing Loyola or Bradley a third time.

Just let our players stay healthy throughout this match and the season. Let J.R. Simon, Z. Bush, and B. Wamukota get a ton of playing time in this game. I don't care if we win only by 2 if our core guys are healthy, rested up, and the deepest bench possible gets quality time being coached in game. That would be success, in my limited way of thinking.

Newman 90 - Washburn 79. Reggie Baker's 30 points led the way for Newman who now is 2-0.

WICHITA – The Newman men's basketball team used a second half surge to pull away from Washburn for a 90-79 victory on Thursday (Nov. 20) at Fugate Gymnasium. The Jets moved to 2-0 and defeated the Ichabods for the second straight time in Fugate Gymnasium. Washburn dropped to 2-3 on the season.

                                KU 85- Washburn 53

How does this math go again? Oh yeah... hmmm.. okay. carry the one... alright... almost there...

Yep. If we win on Sunday, we are better than the Beakers. I at least think that's what my formula told me.
