If we change our name to Duke or North Carolina can we still play in our own backyard?

Yes, and our student athletes will be able to receive As in classes that don't exist, with little or no repercussions.

If only we had entered the host name as "The Wichita State University"...

Seriously, this was a great get and long overdue. Really excited for this!

Props to WSU and IBA for putting together a package deemed worthy by the NCAA.

Hearing Bob Hanson from the Wichita Sports Commission on the radio this afternoon, the arena itself has always met the standards. Sounds like we are just now getting enough hotel space with the proper amenities needed to past muster. Also the NCAA requires police escort for all times a team moves on a bus, so for the 1st/2nd round that is something like 90-100 police escorts in total. Estimate of $10 million economic impact when it finally happens.

It sounds dumb and simplistic, but this has always been the threshold I had in mind when it came to testing whether building the downtown arena was "worth it." The ability to lock down events like this, events which actually move the needle meaningfully for the local economy....this is huge.

Hopefully it is the first of many to come. I have no doubt our community will be on ticket sales like tekele on a loose ball.

I wonder how many people who voted "no" will be attending this event?

They'll all be boycotting because they'll have to park a couple of blocks away.

A couple of things that stick out to me on this event. One, all the people who freaked out over public bonds being considered for the Ambassador Hotel (that weren't ever used for it) and that being one of the final pieces to help land this deal. Two, since WSU can't play here, one would assume KU will and from what the officials said today at the announcement is that the success of WSU was a big part in making this happen. Aw the irony that it took WSU doing well to get KU to play at Intrust...

Parking wont be an issue if the city runs shuttle buses from Lawrence Dumont
