So far, all that hasn't translated into better stats. Last year, because of his offensive woes, he was toward the bottom of the Prouty Rating. Hopefully, his offense improves enough this year that he'll be rated better statistically. It's only one game, but he's at about the same rank on the team as he was last year.

    • Obviously Prouty doesn't explain it all because Evan makes a top 10 team better.

Correct. Wessel is a good utility player able to play the 2, 3, or 4. But he won't be good enough to replace Baker at the 2 or Cotton at the 3 or Darius at the 4. He knows what his role on the team is.

Used to play in Spain. I couldn't find a current location though. I wonder if he's done?

                  • Easy pickins from last night:

-The game Shaq showed up which is totally different than the practice Shaq. I've seen it for two years...once a scrimmage or game starts he turns into a different player. Still missed some checkouts, fumbled a pass or two, and lost his man once, but overall a nice effort. The real question is HCGM willing to let some of the brain farts and laziness in practice and other areas go to get to the game Shaq.....
-Nurger and Kelly are men period. Kelly is so far ahead of almost any freshman I have seen concerning all of the little things: screens, switches, box outs, angles and timing of rebounds. Truly a gem, had he been 6-9 instead of 6-6 1/2 he would be playing for serious money in 2015-16. Plus he seems like a good kid and a really nice guy. Nurger may be the biggest steal in the Marshall era this side of Ron Baker. Skilled, an adequate athlete, and to be politically incorrect, plays a far more intense game than most Euros his age. How long before someone in our crowd holds up a sign that says" Would you like fries with that Nurger?" in reference to one of his moves.
-Still sticking to my guns that Bush should've red shirted; understand the rationale of not doing it and just hope it pays off enough for the team to burn a year of eligibility.
-There is no such thing as a 50/50 ball with Evan Wessel; it's more like 90/10 if he's within 15 feet of it and the 10 per cent that succeed pay dearly for it.
-Holland and Henderson need minutes with FVV, Baker, or TK on the floor with them. HCGM was trying to do that last night as much as possible to get those two playing with excellence so they absorb the experience.

                    • I think this was somewhat of a coming out party for Shaq...wasn't perfect but the talent is there and I thought he showed alot of effort. I'm very impressed with our Freshmen, played with alot of control and none of them appeared to be nervous. It's going to be fun to see how good this team will be at the start of conference play.

I hope that you are right. At least the arrow is pointing up more than it was for Shaq and it shows that the coaching staff hasn't given up on him yet. However, it is my feeling that Gregg isn't done molding him yet and that there will probably still be ups and downs. But in the end, I hope that this was indeed, Shaq's coming out party.

                          • Shaq will certainly have ups and downs this year. What we saw on Friday is evidence of why the coaching staff continues to work with him. The talent is there to be a big time player. It just isn't refined yet.

                            • I'll say this, his 2nd half baseline up and under spin move is as good as you'll see at any level.....and executed more quickly than I can remember ever at WSU.

                              • Dunks

WSU has seven dunks versus NMSU

                                Cotton 3
                                Baker 1
                                Kelly 1
                                Morris 1
                                Nurger 1

                                Misses by Carter and Kelly

Last year, 84 dunks, 2.33 per game. Opponents dunked 33 times. Only Indiana State in St Louis (1-0) and Kentucky (4-2) had more dunks in the game than WSU.

A physician called into a radio show and said:
