  • Crean's safe for another year unless they just totally implode. They are stacked, stacked, stacked with freshmen and have no seniors this season.

Their fans will continue to make a lot of noise on the issue though.

    • Depaul just lost by double digits to 0-4 Lehigh who own losses to Canisius, Rider and Columbia. I know its Depaul, but that's pretty bad, right?

      • Is that like 'Canisius' Clay aka Mohammed Ali? I hear their boxing team is good.....

Im starting to think there is no way in hell anyone should ever put DePaul anywhere but last in their comference. Im pretty sure Newman would give them everything they want.

Make no mistake. DePaul would finish ahead of several MVC teams right now :)

And it disgusts me. They are horrible.

                • As of right now, MSU's game against Colorado St belongs here. They are trailing 20-7 with 8 minutes to go in the half.....

                    • Marshall is not playing for MSU tonight. They are saying he was injured before the game but they didn't say what happened....

                        • 39-56. It's starting to get out of hand. MSU doesn't have much to offer without Marshall.....

The Bears are soft. Soft on defense and soft on the boards. I don't think Lusk gets it done for them. There's some reasonable talent in Springfield, but they don't get after it. A healthy Marshall makes them dangerous. An injured Marshall puts them on the court Thursday in the Lew.

I am convinced it would take something spectacular to pry HCGM away, but of all the schools, I think an opening at Indiana would be that job. As Jalen Rose says, "in 49 states, basketball is a sport, in Indiana it is a religion." I think Indiana fans like a hard nosed, defense first, disciplinarian type coach. The job would be far enough removed from Bob Knight to not cast too big a shadow. They would have enormous resources, (think Big 10 network.) Indiana scares me if the job opens.
The thing really working in our favor here is Shaka Smart. I honestly think he'll always be a first choice over Marshall for jobs.

He's 14 years younger, from Big 10 country, and he has a better media persona. And, ultimately, he's pretty well keeping up with Marshall in performance -- obviously he doesn't have the undefeated season, but success-wise VCU and WSU are very, very similar over the last several years.

For every major, elite job that opens up, Smart will be the first choice. (Not saying Smart would deliver better results at those teams by any means, but from an AD perspective, I think they'll always choose Smart over Marshall.)

Indiana would want Shaka first. And I don't think HCGM will like a job where he's the second choice, even if Shaka didn't take the job (which I think he would in a second).

You realize Bloomington, Indiana is barely farther north than Wichita, right? Wichita's pretty cold already.

"North"-wise, Bloomington, Indiana is roughly equivalent to Manhattan, KS. And we're the second-southern-most Valley team, so I'm not sure the conference as a whole is much different, either. 157% of Valley teams are in Indiana/Illinois/Iowa.
