Bradley absolutely should be concerned. This is not a good sign. I projected them for 8th. After that loss I'd bump them down to 9th. Big whoop. Still better than Loyola.

I guess they were one injury TO CHICAGO STATE away from being at Chicago State level this year.

As @Cdizzle: says, the box score is what should be looked at.

Anyone remember our worst exhibition losses during the dark ages?

I can remember dropping at least one close game to Athletes First/Athletes in Action (I think we lost two but am not positive). I don't remember ever dropping one against D-2 or D-3 competition.

I remember that, I think during Randy's time. If I'm not mistaken it was a very high scoring game.

Not a loss, but in the 2004-05 season, there was a close one against Emporia State. It seems like Jamar Howard was hurt and Rob Kampman was also unavailable (death in family maybe?). There might have been another injury as well. The guys who did play were VERY inexperienced and it showed, as it came down to the final minutes for WSU to win by single digits.

I agree. Bradley has a great basketball history. Historically good fan base. No football. Bradley is one I always want to see near the top of the MVC.

I don't think Bradley will be good this year. I also don't think this loss says they will be worse. It does say they are unlikely to be better.

I realize they were without a few key players, but c'mon. That is a D3 school without athletic scholarships. I also do not see them being much if any better than last year, and that means bad news for Geno. I really hope I am wrong, both for Bradley's sake and ours.

Not looking good for Geno. I'm guessing it's another losing season. Then it's back to the drawing board for Bradley U, and Geno will have to find some other way to pay off his debt to Kent State.

                            - Top-25 teams have lost exhibitions like this in recent years, most notably Baylor and Syracuse.
                            - Not only was BU without Sutherland, Barnes was out, too. That's two starters, one of them perhaps their best player, the other their PG.
                            - One of their returning players (Grier) had no problem telling the media that some of the guys took Augustana for granted. It helps when it's not just the coaches who see the problem.
                            - Lots of newcomers, first game in front of more than a few hundred fans. Although not many more. Eyewitnesses put the actual attendance around 2500.

                            That's all I got.
In the PJ Star game report the Augustana Coach said that he thought there were around 100 D-1 teams his team could beat this year.

He must think 350-250 rpi range... In other words he thinks his team could beat half the MVC

Prior to coming to Lamar, Giovanine was an assistant coach at Wichita State University for a year from April of 1992 until June of 1993. He was the recruiting coordinator and his first recruiting class was rated as the best class in the Missouri Valley Conference and was ranked in the top 25 nationally. For the five years before that (1987-92), he was the assistant coach at Rice where the Owls put together the school’s first 20 win season in 40 years. At both Wichita State and Rice he worked under head coach Scott Thompson, who has Quad City ties. Thompson played at Moline High School where his father Herb was the highly successful head coach.
