Their star PG rJUCO transfer is hurt and will miss several games. Not an excuse, just an update on Bradley.

On a brighter note, that's the team that beat KU.

Top 100 freshman Josh Cunningham had 0 points and 3 rebounds and former top 100 Mike Shaw had 4 points and 3 rebounds. Austin Barnes served game 1 of his three game suspension.

Interestingly, Bradley is one of the current MVC teams I would be interested in for a new conference.

Why are we planning on going D111?

Maybe Bradley isn't one injury away from being Chicago State... maybe they are already there.

I'm not going to defend the Toasters, but I'm going to intentionally try and look at this from another angle to make myself feel better about the league this year:

                      - Top-25 teams have lost exhibitions like this in recent years, most notably Baylor and Syracuse.
                      - Not only was BU without Sutherland, Barnes was out, too. That's two starters, one of them perhaps their best player, the other their PG.
                      - One of their returning players (Grier) had no problem telling the media that some of the guys took Augustana for granted. It helps when it's not just the coaches who see the problem.
                      - Lots of newcomers, first game in front of more than a few hundred fans. Although not many more. Eyewitnesses put the actual attendance around 2500.

                      That's all I got.

Correct me if I am wrong, but several years ago SIU lost in the Alaskan Shootout to a D2 or D3 school and I believe they won arch madness that year. Point is, there is a lot of bball left to be played and I doubt that BU will be as bad as some are anticipating by this loss.

Augustana opened the game up with a planned dunk play.

The only time Bradley wasn't losing was when they tied the game at 2-2.

At one point they were losing 20-8.

D-1 programs get beat occasionally in exhibitions. Is there any games where the D-1 program was so utterly dominated?

                            They lost by 2.

I agree that it's easy to overreact to this, especially with Bradley having played short a couple guys. The thing that sticks out to me though, is the box score. Sometimes a D2 team or whatever just goes bombs-away from 3 and the shots all happen to go. Not too much you can do about that. Sometimes the rebounding numbers look weird because a team is jacking up a ton of 3s and creating tons of long rebounts. Sometimes some sort of weird officiating occurs.

Those things didn't happen here. Augustana shot 39% from the field, 28% from 3, and 65% from FT, while shooting 3 less FTs than Bradley. Augustana had more points off turnovers, more 2nd chance points, more points in the paint, more fast break points, and more assists than Bradley. This wasn't a flukey win, it was a team leading wire-to-wire and holding on in a close game down the stretch. If I was a Bradley fan, that's the part that would have me concerned.

Nice that the Valley is improving!!! Very encouraging sign to learn that Bradley got within 3 points to somewhat put a scare in Augustana. Great job Bradley!!! Hang in there...continue to work hard...and success will follow. Don't EVER give up!!!!! Valley RULES!!!!!!!
