    • Just got my email that the Shox scored 70 so we get 50% off Papa Johns. Does that mean if we had scored 28 more points it would have been free? :)

You fell into that same trap we all keep falling into in the Marshall era. We keep underestimating the team. We should have known they would score over 110 points even though that never happens. Why? Because no matter how good HCGM makes the program, he still exceeds expectations every year.

                • I'm not gonna lie, I didn't think Shaq sucked. I thought he looked exactly what a freshman would look like about 4-6 years ago. Admittedly, he didn't stand out in a game where many newcomers did, but he wasn't bad. He made a nice assist in his first 5 seconds out there, showing vision and confidence. He seemed to be in the right spot and he seemed to grab a rebound or two. He got benched after throwing a ball away, but you know, Henderson got benched for it too. They both got the same "talking to" from HCGM.

He was not bad. For me, the takeaway is that we got to see where he is on the roster. He's pretty low, along with Glass. That means we have a lot of depth at forward though because neither one of them were BAD. They just weren't ridiculous like R Kelly, Bush Dubya or Nurks, the cantankerous Gumby.

My dad and I were commenting on that. Shaq looked like a freshman, or what a freshman is supposed to look like. Everyone else looked like MVC all-stars.

The same stuff we are praising about the other guys could be said about Shaq other than scoring. Shaq looked comfortable with the ball, he isn't a spatula hands, he makes good passes, I saw him block out at times (when I was paying attention) and he moves well for a big guy. He may be at the bottom of a stacked roster, but he wasn't bad. He was forgettable because of where other people are (awesome), not necessarily where he is (decent).

When Shaq comes into a game because of foul trouble, I will not be wincing and praying. He will hold it down for a couple minutes and do just fine. If he can stay a part of this roster for 4 more years, I'm confident he will be a really good player. The rest is up to him. Pieces are there.

On this team looking like a freshman might lead to polishing the end of the bench with your arse.

                        • Best stat of the night about the entire committee of big men... No traveling whatsoever during post moves or tie ups and no spatula hands turnovers for the most part. Gumby had one but it was a loose ball to begin with so it might not show up as a turnover.

We have skilled big men across the board. Defense and rebounding can be taught.

                          • Brown also looked like a freshman to me...which of course he is; as did Glass...which of course he is not.

                                1. Bush can catch the ball and seems to have a good move or two to go to. That's a lot of too's. But anyway, don't know if he will be as good defensively as Ehimen, but he is much further along offensively, can catch the ball, and has great effort on the boards. All that with 3 years of basketball under his belt. I wish we had 4-5 years with him.

                                2. Ri'an Holland. Smooth shot, disruptive on defense, and great energy all around. He will be getting some minutes.

                                3. Intro video is good again, though I would like to see a few more highlights.

                                Non-positives:

                                1. Sound system sounded clogged or something. Hopefully just needs some cobwebs dusted off from last year.

                                2. Shaq didn't look horrible, but his play didn't exactly demand much playing time, at least initially.

                                3. Glass looks lost out there. Hopefully he figures something out soon, or I fear he will be buried at the bottom of the depth chart. Maybe I'm just reading too much into limited exhibition minutes.

Anybody know who did the Cox telecast with Ewing? We're they any good?
The broadcast was good, but i didn't catch the color guy's name.
