@lukewinn: Wichita State giving its team "BEST START EVER" rings for last season's 35-game win streak. https://t.co/MTXeLtlcis
Things like this always make me wonder about players receiving benefits and things like that. What are the limitations on the rings that we can give out and how much can they be worth? For example, if UK wants to give its players money but have it be above board, can they just say "best showing in the NIT in the last 5 years" and hand out a $25,000 ring? Can the player sell it to a jewelry store unaffiliated with UK? I assume the player can't sell it to a UK fan, right-since that would involve boosters paying players? I dunno. I'm not smart enough for this. Is there just a common sense standard that we will give out a ring for being undefeated but not for losing in the first round of the NIT?

The answer is championship rings can only be worth $415 and other types of rings have to be worth even less. (https://www.ncaapublications.com/pro...loads/D111.pdf - pg 235 if you're interested) Great work today, JD. Head home early, and enjoy the long weekend.

No no. I was referring to Fred and Ron transferring to Kentucky next season to improve their NBA draft stock. As seniors...both Cotton and Darius had only until last week to announce they were transferring to Kentucky but they didn't thank God. So we're safe for now... but I do worry about Shaq possibly requesting to be transferred to Kentucky.

I think some fans just don't care to go to Shocker Madness. If the same fans that go to regular season games would go to Shocker Madness, it would be filled up every year.

It's not like they don't know the event occurs every year around this time prior to the start of the season. No one needs to let them know it's coming up in a few days or weeks. If they were actually interested in going, they would find the information on their own and not have to have it spoon fed to them.

            • It's always tough to make evaluations based on inter-squad scrimmages. Everybody knows the plays, everybody knows the defense and they've been playing against each other all summer long. Think about this as well, these newbies are playing against All-Conference, All-American, future NBA studs. It will take awhile.

Here is my evaluation to go along with the other 200 already given.
Nurger is a player. He is primo clay for Gregg's hands. He'll contribute this year.

Kelly looks like Cotton in a forwards body. Likes contact, chases the bounds. He'll contribute this year.

Holland will get decent situation minutes. Remember who he is playing behind.

Henderson will certainly get an opportunity to back up Fred.

Brown??? Didn't see enough to form an opinion. I did expect more. Same as Holland?

The rest, to be determined. Disappointed we didn't get to see SM and TBW. SM better understand that you don't want to go toe-to-toe with HCGM. You WILL lose.

As far as the event. It is what Gregg wants it to be. I really doubt he wants a three-ring circus. This is a blue collar program. We are not rolling out 5 Star clowns under a big top. I also doubt that he had any problem with the fan support. He knows he has a premier fan base.

Let's see how opinions change after the first exhibition game and outside competition.

Do you have a link to images or videos of the recruiting room? I read that they were going to do this, but have not seen the results myself.
My wife and I were invited to view the room last night and that's when I found out about their plans on how their handling the WSU sports history area. I didn't see anything on goshockers.com or Facebook, but, for me, that's not saying much.

...and this is where the argument comes in that the whole thing lacks grandeur, is too laid back of an event and is poorly organized. The same people who don't care to come but do have season tickets might start seeing it as an event worth attending if, well, it were an event worth attending. The whole frustration is along the lines of "if you build it, they will come." For whatever reason (hopefully Marshall's prerogative), it isn't being built.

                  • Obviously HCGM is not interested in making it a bigger event. I wish it were on a Saturday as a part of a BIG campus wide "Shocktoberfest" type of event. Make it a day where all the facets of Wichita State are on display for the public. It would be cool to go check out some stuff in the wind tunnels, see some art work, check out the happenings in the business school, hear some music, eat at the new Rhatigan Center, and check out some Shocker sports, headlined by the men's basketball team. Make it a day for everything that is Black and Gold!

                          • Hey, there's a box score on goshockers.

Interestingly enough, Rauno almost led all players in scoring without Darius's 75% shooting effort (one was a joke 3, so I'm calling him 6 for 8 and 12 points in 20 minutes). FVV also had 8 points, but 4 were from the free throw line. Rauno was 3 for 4, 2 of 2 from three for 8 points in 15 minutes and led all players in rebounds and had a block. He was the ONLY player on his squad to even hit a 3...Black squad was 2 of 8. He out shot Cotton and FVV from 3. ZERO turnovers. The thing that stands out negatively is that he also led the team in fouls.

The box score helps put into perspective how good he was. His squad was pretty poor offensively and would have gotten destroyed without him on it.

The box score has Holland as 0-1 from three, but did he not make a buzzer beating three from about where Marshall was sitting?
