so assuming he offer him for next year, that takes away 1 scholarship for the 15 class, with 1 remaining. But we all know we will have more than 2 new players for 2015 class.

That's just the way it is with top programs. You're expected to preform and develop and be an asset, in addition to being really damned good. Case in point, Derail Green. I think we all believe he'll be extremely productive in his new home, but he wasn't going to help the Shocks this year, or next year....at least. At that point, you have to go find the next one. It's a mortal lock that someone in our 13 isn't going to live up to expectations.

Sounds like a win, win, win for Eric, WSU, and Sunrise....

Does the Letter of Intent/Offer work both ways in this case?

In other words, is the offer still an obligation the school is automatically locked into?

Just curious. Certainly nothing against Eric.

I believe as long as it is binding on the student athlete it is also binding on the school and vice versa.

There are several ways it would no longer be binding on Eric. If Eric did was denied admission due to academic standards or he does not meet the eligibility requirements then his NLI would be null and void. I really don't know if that is the case with Eric or not. The fact that Sully's reports said he plans to sign with WSU again in November would seem to indicate that Eric's NLI is, in fact, no longer in effect and not binding on either party. Whether his NLI became null and void due to eligibility/admission requirements or whether it might have to do with the rules regarding attending a Prep school I don't know.

At his point I am operating under the assumption their is no binding agreement between the parties until he signs again in November. If there was there would be no reason to sign again in November.

My understanding is that the NLI expires automatically at the end of one year. At that point, neither WSU nor Eric have any obligation one to the other. However, Eric can sign a new NLI at that time (assuming WSU offers it) and then WSU is bound to honor that. I believe that Eric would also have to honor that unless he failed to qualify or experienced some extreme hardship.

I just now read Sully's article. There's a line in there that's worth mentioning:

Hamilton sees the wisdom in a year of prep school to learn the skills required to play small forward.
Hamilton says his conditioning coach measured him at a true 6'9". It appears Marshall is trying to groom a 6'9" SF. Probably what he would have done with Early if he would have had Early for 4 years.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

Marshall has plans for Hamilton. He is talking about playing the same way that Cle played last year. Being able to have handles and run full court, play the half court behind the 3 point line, medium range facing the basket, and still post up when the mismatch helps him under the basket instead of playing the SF as a traditional wing.

So what this means is that we now have a minor league farm club?

This news is finally out, so I can share a small tidbit that I have been getting updates on for weeks now. My source is A+ with this information: The original plan was to place Hamilton at Sunrise weeks ago when we signed the Sunrise center. However, Hamilton has played extremely well this summer in practices with the players. He played so well in fact, that what to do with him became a difficult decision for Marshall. Do you keep him on the team and let another player go? If so, who? Or do you send him to Sunrise to improve and pray some really good team does not recruit him away a year from now? Neither decision was an easy one to make. Marshall went with option 2 as we all know now, but the decision was a difficult one for him. Hamilton appears to have a very bright future in basketball and lets hope we can hang onto him a year from now.

Sounds like Hamilton may be your next Fred Van Vleet. I believe he will stay committed to WSU, and he will come light it up next season. My speculative side says Coach was down to one particular player who we sometimes question his shooting stroke but never his work ethic and barrel chest, and Coach couldn't possibly turn a kid like that loose. I know I wouldn't. He needs one more year, and I think even he will break out this season. Coach made the right choice.
