Before Loyola joined, his school owned the dubious honor of longest NCAA Tournament drought.

I just can't stop laughing at the irony of all fan bases to come on here, sign up, and talk sh*t on us, it would have to be one of those moronic Redturd fans.

WSU owning them in EVERYTHING just chaps their asses off.
    Deuces Valley.
    ... No really, deuces.

    • Why should we all be surprised?

We get lured in for a bullshit "historic" announcement that leads to nothing. Nothing. Nothing.

      What an effing joke.

As soon as I read that post I knew it had to be from an ILST fan. Let's see, ILST men's basketball last ncaa tournament appearance was 1998 and they come here to put us in our place and tell us were a Jonny-come-lately. Go figure??? #SMH

        • 1. The conference is not interested in placating Wichita State. They know that when we get an invitation to a better conference that we are gone. It does not matter what concessions or appeasements the conference makes to the Shockers, when the time comes we're leaving. Therefore, they are not going to make decisions on what they think will keep Wichita St in the conference. In fact, I think they are making many decisions based on the reality that in the future we will not be a part of the MVC. I'm not saying that they are trying to run us off, but they know the reality.

          2. That being said, I fully expected that the conference would make some sort of announcement of rotating the conference to different cities. For example, keep it in STL for 2 out of 4 years and try KC and Chicago for the off years. It seems to me an occasional change in venues would give the tournament new energy and keep it fresh. My guess is that economics (poor bids from other cities) and/or politics (Ill schools throwing a fit about moving it to KC) kept this from happening.

          3. I think that we underestimated the financial impact of the departure of Creighton has had on the tournament. I would estimate that beer sales this year were down 60% to 70%. Probably scaring many cities from making strong bids for the tournament. OK this one is tongue in cheek.

          4. Paul Suellentrop is @WuDrWu:. "Paul is almost always right." "Fear the Paul." "Paul is good. Paul is great." etc. etc. Ok this one is tongue in cheek too

Not surprisingly, most schools enjoyed today's announcement. As one poster asked here why would the Valley want to piss off all the Illinois schools.

Why irritate a couple fans and maybe a few hundred dollars indeed.

              • Is the MVC merging with another conference a possibility? Would there be a decent "East/West" or "North/South" conference to merge with? Would be cool if you did that and had a two tier relegation system where the top teams in each sport from the previous year get to square-off, preserving their RPI and minimizing the damage from schools that suck in that sport. If you are one of the two losers from the top tier, you get relegated to the lower tier and the top two teams from the lower tier get to move up. That would be a really cool system from a conference of 18 to 20 schools.

                • Odds are pretty good that we will skip the tournament this season for the first time in a while. I'd much rather follow us opening weekend in (hopefully) Omaha for the Dance, and we've already booked travel for the Final Four regardless of whether the Shocks make it or not.

Arch Madness is a lot of fun and I'm glad we saw the curse broken last year, but it doesn't compare to following the team in the NCAA Tournament. If only time and money were unlimited resources.

                  • After Doc and I chatted it up and he talked me off the ledge, I felt better. Had this come out in a press release, I don't think I'd care so much. It's just that a big deal was made out of what would be nothing. Also, Doug's answer to the historic question just made him look like a dork. That's why I was annoyed.

                      • Rumor has it that a high level meeting was held in Springfield. People in the meeting were wearing polo's with embroidered NAIA logos. There was a sealed manilla envelope and helicopters. Elgin kept the tourney in StL to keep the Bears from going NAIA.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

                        • Maybe they meant a "hysteric" announcement?

Union Station is about equivalent to a lower rent Crown Center in KC, with all the touristy vanilla crap and not quite the same gems.

St. Louis must have dished out the cash to keep this thing there. Either that or the Valley has 5 more years of "Arch Madness" letterhead they don't want to go to waste.
The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.

IF only they could find that dang letter opener then they could open all those sealed invitations to other conferences.

                            • Well, as if to prove that JH4P is really me, too, I'll offer a post that sounds like one of his: for the Valley, the choice of St. Louis over Kansas City was pretty much a no-brainer (unless KC pretty much offered the moon, which apparently was not the case).

Now that the Creighton Drinking Society has moved on, the only two schools and fan bases for whom KC is all that much closer than St. Louis are WSU, which is likely to be represented by more fans than anyone else (maybe any two other schools combined) anyway, and Drake, which won't have more than a skeleton crew in either place. But for those on the east side of the Mississippi -- the ones who can stand a little encouragement to show up -- St. Louis is at least three hours closer.

So why NOT take WSU for granted and try to maximize the attendance from the East? The Shocks aren't likely to have as many folks there in 2015 and beyond as last year regardless, if only because the odds are against WSU's being undefeated and playing for a regional #1 seed every year. But they'll still have the largest representation. And meanwhile, some of the eastern crew might actually step up enough to give their fans an incentive to attend, especially if they don't have to go all the way across Missouri to get there. Add in the presence of the league office in St. Louis, and this is an easy choice -- annoying, no question, but perfectly logical in terms of dollars and cents.

And sorry, guys, but Las Vegas was never more than a pipe dream for Shockernetters looking for a chance to behave badly. Seriously, a host city well over a thousand miles from the nearest midwestern school in a league whose profile isn't exactly the highest even in its own part of the country -- and people are supposed to show up in meaningful numbers? That's Twilight Zone stuff.
