Jamie Arnold made a 14 year career out of it.

As far as squandering opportunities, yes, that is what I meant. He had the talent to make it, but did he have the drive? I hate to question that from Cle, but he staying out late at strip clubs isont what I would be doing if I was on the boarder line of the NBA.
The Knicks fans were sure excited when they got him. They thought they had got a steal early in the 2nd round and if I remember, the Knicks signed him to a 1 or 2 year guaranteed contract even though they didn't have to. There is no doubt that Fred and Ron are more disciplined in their approach to life. Cle sure could score especially from the 3 line in college. There is no doubt that moving the 3 point line back 3' in the NBA affected Cle.

Maybe he did. We don't get he see the day-to-day behind the scenes. I think he had the tools in his box to improve enough to make it. Which is what makes it a "what if?" situation for me.

Who's betta? Luke Utting or Jamie Arnold?

That ' break the backboard throw' from J.A. was one that stays in the back of my lil pea brain!!! Yikes!!! The routine of Henry Carr with that non-shooting arm before the throw too. Or Randy Smithson falling over backwards on the roll around the rim make versus Iowa. I hope Cle finds a home somewhere because he is a playa!!!!!!!

              • FSF you are a funny person asking this question. Jamie Arnold is the answer even when he shot that brick off the backboard & looked at the bench. Coach Smithson was the only person that considered this much of a battle. Unfortunately, this decision was one of the events that led toward his ultimate firing.

                • If you guys want to talk about 20 years ago, go ahead and get after it. There is little good that happened then and this is a new era. Randy did a lot of good for WSU during his time as a Shocker and one shouldn't only focus on the negative.

The good that did happen then is we still followed them faithfully.

To look back now at those depressing days is cathartic. We all knew Wichita St. could put a top-tier team on the court, just like GGG thought. Most people thought so too. Except the fans who started in the 90's and that's all they know.

That Iowa game is the greatest game I ever had the pleasure to attend. I was high fiving a whole lotta people I didn't even know. People were sitting in the aisles. When Randy came here I thought he would put us back at the top of the Valley.

The mention of the key make by Randy in the Iowa game was a quite positive comment of my focus. Some believe that was one of the loudest games in Shocker History and we won another key game because of that win. The Off-Season seems to get me reminiscing Shocker History at times and I was a fan during the tough times along with the good. I've yet to meet a Shocker fan that does not understand that Randy Smithson did good things for our Program.

This is the only reason Coach Turgeon came here and why we need to do the same for baseball.

                        • Did SA play last night or Wed night? Can't remember. Anyway, right before the end of the first half as I was tuning in, Craig Bolerjack (formerly of KSN) mentioned Cle and he was in the game. The next dead ball he was out, which seemed kind of weird to me because I got the impression he just came in.
Couldn't watch the 2nd half though, NBA summer league games can be painful. Plus there's some new Rifftrax movies on Amazon so I was watching those.

                            • It pains me to say this, but the limited minutes Cle has played in summer league he has looked almost uninterested. Standing around on possessions and virtually invisible. Not sure what is going on with him.

                              • Cle should probably get his passport ready. There is good money to be made overseas and honestly, I think the European game and Cle is a pretty good fit.
