    Cue JH4P.
I completely disagree. ShockerExpress took a divisive topic and presented it in a very fair, "reasonable people can disagree" type of way.

You shock are the one stirring up the pot where others are trying to be civil, and it is you that are demonizing someone who seemed to do his best to make sure his words were carefully thought out so as not to offend. Say you disagree and be done with it. The self-centered, arrogant, entitlement language was garbage. ShockerExpress had none of that in his post.

As for the issue at hand, I think it is silly to say that athletes don't have some level of responsibility, but where to draw the line is a big grey area. Only at official, university sanctioned signing sessions? Maybe. All the time? Probably not. Somewhere in between. Possibly. Given all the complexity of a specific situation (is the athlete trying to get somewhere or do something, is there a risk of starting a big autograph/photo line, etc.) I tend to give the individual a ton of benefit of the doubt unless I have good evidence that they are being a jerk about it. The report was that Baker was very kind as he declined. That's all I need to know to say I have no problem with his actions.

Never does everyone who wants an autograph get one, unless they are standing in line at the preseason poster line.

These boys get a few weeks off each year. Let them enjoy it.

Was in New Orleans and went out for a work function at a VERY high end restaurant. One of my favorite actresses (on THAT list) happened to not only be in town, but was eating with a friend at the same place. I saw her, she saw me, then it happened....
I smiled, she acknowledged, and I walked past without stopping or pausing. The best part is just as we were getting ready to leave, i get a note. It is from her, saying thank you or not interrupting her dinner with her friend, as her Husband had just passed and this was her first night out of the house.

She signed it, and then added a PS (Thats private)

No one ever knows the circumstances a person is dealing with at any point. If you ever see one of these guys decline an autograph at Koch, i would be beyond shocked. We have great young men, and I am proud of the way they represent our University.

Seriously? I mean I understand what you're saying, and in a vacuum it's a great idea, but where would it stop? Not to be cruel, but we're not (I don't think at least) talking about a young woman who was in poor health for example. It was a girl that's googly eyes for Ron. So is my daughter. But I tell her not to bother Ron when we see him. If he wants to say hi, he'll say hi. Otherwise, we all have to realize what's going on here and leave these kids be for the most part. It really isn't that hard.

            Dear diary,

Today is June 24th, the year of our Lord 2014ad. I have truly found the definition of off season, may it be known, "Obligations" shall henceforth be known as the epitome of off season message board content. It has been written. For all who is reading this historical archive of Wichita State basketball, you have been warned. Leave now, future humans, for there is nothing to see here.

              Where's the dislike button?

This topic is way more relevant to Shocker basketball, in season or offseason, than 50% of the stuff being posted recently. At least it would be if the trolls would leave it alone.

How about you start moderating for a change dear Mr. moderator administrator guy? Posts 22-26 would be a start.

You don't see me coming to your mother's basement telling you how to do your job.

Complains about the lulls of the offseason.
Very next post is a "you live in your mom's basement" joke.

                  Classic!

What's wrong with living in your mom's basement?

To be fair, he only implied that you worked in your mom's basement, both avoiding the "live in your mom's basement" cliche and simultaneously crediting you with the ability to hold a job. Sounds like a compliment to me.

To follow on with the story jazztrane related, I got tickets for the NCAA BB championship game one year when KU played Duke. Dan Quayle was the veep at the time and my section was full of secret service agents. Irv Cross, the NFL Analyst (and ex wideout for the Eagles) was sitting directly in front of me. I noticed him and said 'Hey, aren't you Irv Cross?' He gave me this deer in the headlights look and I knew immediately I had made a mistake. He sas besieged by autograph seekers the rest of the game.

That's when I learned that being famous isn't always what it's cracked up to be. Can't even go to a BB game and blend in with the crowd. Don't have any privacy.

I don't blame Ron for politely turning her down. If he had not, it would have been the exact same outcome as what I saw with Irv Cross. At some point, I'm betting these people would like to live, at least sometimes, with some degree of anonymity.
