Say what you want, but it is clearly the right decision long term. It doesn't take a visionary to see it. Short term we might suffer. In 10 years we will be where we want to be. Only a myopic person could conclude differently. We'll take our lumps sure. As much success as you have had in basketball, I wouldn't trade places right now with you. No sir. I'm sure 20 years ago Boise State fans were mocked for having a vision of being more than a second rate program in a third rate state. They were a glorified junior college. Look where they are today. I'm not saying we are Boise State but you have to have a vision. I'd rather have clear eyes, try for something and fail than sit around being myopic, hoping that Doug Elgin does something smart for a change.

Can't get more arrogant than that, especially when your so-called vision far, far exceeds your actual and proven reach.

Sun Belt is where mediocre sports programs go to die. The ability for teams to jump up to "big time" football is almost completely over, and if a program isjust now considering the jump from Pop Warner to FBS, the last place you want to jump is the Sun Belt.

The split into an elite division of only five conferences is happening right now. If the Boise's of the world don't get their ducks in a row, they will be left out. It is unimaginable just how left out Missouri State will be, playing "FBS" football in the Sun Belt.

The idiocy of the Missouri State fan base in general, and ofCasey particular, never ceases to amaze me.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

This time I think it is legitimate, but I sincerely hope that the Sun Belt are men and women of their word. Football is king. That's our future and the future of college athletics. I hope we can still play in most sports though. If this actually happens this time.
And no, Casey, Missouri State was never close to leaving for C-USA. There were no secret meetings, no manila envelopes, no talk among C-USA members of adding the Bears. You guys are barely worthy of being in the Valley, Hammons is dead and there aren't any more handouts. Maybe the Sun Belt is your best bet.

I think it will be hilarious if the fans (not just at MSU) manage to get to FBS, spending millions on stadium improvements and recruiting, only to see the top conferences split off. It isn't even that far fetched, as "one athletics director asked Emmert directly whether it was time for the top football conferences to split from the lower-tier conferences of the Football Bowl Subdivision, and perhaps even away from the NCAA altogether."

Personally I love the position that Wichita State is in now. Without football, it is hard to move to a better basketball conference, but we may never have been able to grow the program with the additional financial constraints of football. But even in the MVC, our program has seen profits from our program, most notably in our media exposure. It is estimated that the team's success this year was worth over $500 million in free publicity alone. That creates interest from donors, new prospective students, and all sorts of benefits without the need for the expense that is D1 football. From a financial standpoint, not having football has clearly been a boon to our university, while having it nearly sent the entire athletic program under.

I agree with your point. However, just a minor correction. The $500 million was attributed to the previous year's Final Four run.

I don't really have any way to support my contention, but I believe due to the extended duration and breadth of our wall-to-wall media exposure this year that the value of this year's media exposure probably significantly exceeds even the Final Four run.

It was interesting to hear Rainbolt's take on paying student athletes to play. He basically said that the Shockers had four mens basketball players who were pulling the wagon for the entire athletic department that deserved to be paid for what they brought to the University. All of the other athletes were being pulled along by those four. He didn't believe that the NCAA should pay for all athletes. Bruce of course, argued with him and stated that there was no way that the NCAA wouldn't pay all athletes in the department. Rainbolt said that his T/F athletes were getting a great student/athlete experience. Rainbolt is right on with his opinions.

They have to be. Talk about the bottom of the rung among college athletes. Coach 'Bolt has 60 men on his roster. He has a whopping 12.6 scholarship equivalents to divide up. It's slightly better for the women. 'Bolt has 18 scholarships to divide among his roster of 63 female athletes.

A great student/athlete experience is about all Bolt can offer them. Let me say I really admire these kids and the job Bolt does with our Track and Field Program. Great guy. Great group of young athletes representing Wichita State to the very best they can.

Gee, sure didn't take you long to come back out from behind the woodshed. I hope you enjoyed checking in on us throughout our 35-0, #2 nationally campaign.

You and your idiot fan base who think the Sun Belt is the answer to all of your ailing problems (and believe me, you have many) is beyond ludicrous on so many levels. The Sun Belt is trash. I guarantee you more people pay attention to high-level FCS schools than Arkansas State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana-Monroe, etc. The fact that you think you guys will be something of substance with this move is borderline Creighton-esque. But at least with Creighton, they have some clout to back things up.

You aren't even worthy of the Valley. So maybe the Sun Belt is a better fit for you clouded imbeciles. Maybe you'll actually be able to compete with those programs.

Good luck drawing 15,000 a game with that lineup.
                      Deuces Valley.
                      ... No really, deuces.

Start a kickstarter account to fund your exit, Iā€™m sure most of the Valley alum will give to get rid of you.

Professional college athletics at a high level will be a turn off to the public. Television ratings will go the way of the NBA. Making money will take a hit and never be as big as it was.
