Football is king for about 30 university's. For all the others, football is just a rathole to throw money down.
"Hank Iba decided he wouldn't play my team anymore. He told me that if he tried to get his team ready to play me, it would upset his team the rest of the season." Gene Johnson, WU Basketball coach, 1928-1933.

It's king at the 120 FBS schools. Regardless of how much they profit on the sport. It is the most important thing on campus. I'm not meaning this as a dig at you all because of your football situation, but for schools that have football it represents so much more than all of the other sports combined.

Well, it's time for MSU to 'belly up to the bar'; oh, you better have a good 'BAG MAN'.

For the universities it's about to represent more lawsuits than they can handle.

KU, Duke, UNC. Those are just 3 schools off the top of my head where football is a distant 2nd to basketball.

I'm with you on this one. The way the winds are blowing I'm actually afraid college athletics might disappear altogether at some point.

I agree... what a mess we're looking at all across the board. It's a crying shame.

You do realize your football team draws only 50% of your stadium's capacity, right? The NCAA shows that in 2013 you average only 8,700 in attendance at a stadium that wiki says seats 16,300. For perspective, Pitt State - the Kansas D2 school closer to Springfield than Wichita - drew on average 10,300.

EDIT: Further, according to the US DOE your school's AD budget with football is just over $15M - compared to football-less WSU's budget of almost $23M. How in the world does MSU plan to even remotely hang in FBS?

Pitt State to the Sun Belt, you heard it here first.

I looked at swomo football attendance - it can't be that important because nobody actually goes to your games. Do you all just drive to the country side and do meth and listen to the game on the radio and hulicinating that your playing big time football?

Well enjoy that big time football because it's sucking the financial life out of all your other sports programs.

Fixed. You just had a few extra, unnecessary words.

Well, unless Wichita State is in town.

This time I think it is legitimate, but I sincerely hope that the Sun Belt are men and women of their word. Football is king. That's our future and the future of college athletics. I hope we can still play in most sports though. If this actually happens this time.
Where were you when we needed you? I was hoping you would put in a prediction for the WSU-UK game for some reverse-jinx action.
