The Wichita Eagle estimated the crowd at 1,500. My estimate of 2,500 could have easily been a little high. 2,000 probably about the right number. No way it was anywhere close to 4,000.

    Here is the Eagle write-up.

And no I don't blame the lack of marketing. There was plenty of notice and public announcements unless you live in a cave. These are the kind of functions real fans seek out and mark on their calendars. They shouldn't have to be led in by a nose ring. I was really quite surprised the turnout wasn't substantially better. I will say the Shocker fans that were there were enthusiastic and did a great job so pat yourself on the back if you were there.
I'd blame the fact they scheduled this nearly a month after WSU played their last game. That's way too long of a layover, if you want to retain critical mass at something like this. At least IMO.

I'd agree on your estimate of a turnout. CKA was about 2/3rds full around roughly half of the arena. Not really THAT much worse than the same thing last year, was it?

I think that's a reasonable observation. OTOH, I think 3G and his team were ready to get away from all the hoopla especially after a very tough loss to end their season.

If we really are an elite fan base as we like to claim then I think we can do better.

It wasn't the largest of crowds, but what matters more: some celebration a month after the season has ended, or fans going to home games, the conference tournament, and the NCAA tournament? Because we had a really great turnout for one of those options. If 3G cares more about a random publicity (and boosters) night than the time of year that he cares most about...I would be shocked. He knows we support him, and his team.

It is not a question of what matters more. They all matter. It was a FREE function. A great opportunity to show Coach Marshall and the team how much they are loved and appreciated. Whether it counts more or less than something else isn't the issue. It counts and it was an opportunity to make it count big. It was a missed opporutuntity for Shocker Nation to send Coach Marshall a huge message.

              1,500? Called it.

Bravo to the ones who showed up and tried to get loud.

              Otherwise, pathetic.

We have a season ticket base of about 9,000. I would have expected at least half of all season ticket holders (so called dieharders) to be there.

I guess the fan base really is getting spoiled and thinks 35-1 seasons are a dime a dozen. Whatever.

We got some pics with some of the players. We had a good night.

              ... No really, deuces.

Tekele's dunk vs Illinois State got some nice run at the end of the video.

Coach Marshall said there were still 6 seats available for anyone wanting season tickets and you better hurry.

Yeah, that was a pretty funny moment. So assuming the students utilize their full allotment, CKA will have a grand total of 6 GA tickets available next year for anyone that is not either a season ticket holder, or a student.

                    Crazy...

I thought Dave Dahl did a really nice job as did the gentleman from the Wichita Eagle.

Shane Ewing did Ok as well although I think he was flirting with Jenn Bates.

What was the context of this? SHOCKvalue said it was a funny moment, so what was the joke with this? I wasn't there (had work trip planned for a couple of months), so I don't know what all was said. I am confused because the season ticket holders haven't gotten the renewals yet, so how can there be tickets available or not for sure? Obviously we know that the renewal will be high, but we wouldn't know for sure. Just need some clarity...

I wonder if Tevin Glass was in the house tonight. I assume we made a good impression if he was, although it could have been a lot better.

I think 3G was just making a point regarding the support the team receives from season ticket holders. I doubt he really knows how many season tickets remain available.

I can't remember the exact context. Could have been when he was talking about not getting to cut down the nets in Dallas this year so their is more work to do. He also said the best was yet to come and the guys were working very hard.

He kind of said it in a jovial, lighthearted manner when he was talking about the crazy amount of fan support WSU offers. Sort of like: "Shake my head, golly gee that's hard to believe."

The SASO renewals went out a few weeks ago, I know that. It took a nice bite out of my wallet. And since SASO donations are basically the license to buy a season ticket, you can make some assumptions.
