I agree with you as IMO WSU has moved beyond what Gonzaga has accomplished; the challenge before the University now is to maintain and extend its current level of excellence.

I look forward to another five year run of excellence with HC3GM and the Shockers continuing to post >30 wins per season and deep runs in the NCAA Tournament.

      • I love having the best coach in the country.

BTW. Border patrol referencing lutz article. Hahaha.

I am not following? I said it is crazy and nonsensical, which it is. However that is a lot of money and would get anyone's attention. It doesn't matter if the money is in coaching, Wall Street, or manufacturing widgets, it is a lot of money. I happen to believe in the case of HCGM and the University of Tennessee that there is no merit to the rumor.

Do you take exception with my comment because I alluded that if in some bizarre alternate reality the rumor were founded and he were to leave that I wouldn't blame him? In my career I have passed on several opportunities that were more prestigious and significantly better money simply because I am "home" for the foreseeable future. At the moment I think HCGM is in a good spot.

                  • @EnthusiAdams: Shaka Smart had no Dad in his life. As player at Kenyon College his coach/father figure left. He was devastated. That's why he stays at VCU.

                    • Gabe De Armond of Power Mizzou was on the Border Patrol this morning with a major boner for HCGM. Another delusional, ill informed expert who thinks you can throw $3M and the prospect of SEC TV money to get coach to jump in the dumpster.

                      • I would wager a fair amount that WSU could sniff the air at paying Marshall 3m soon.

And when you have the best coach in college basketball, you do NOT let him get bought. Pull out the stops if you have to because the only direction you can go is down if you lose him. Again, we are talking about possibly the best coach in college basketball. He WILL win national championships at Wichita State, and he WILL change the entire University outlook with an extended stay here. Keep Marshall at all costs, and ride his coat tails into continued national prominence. Its amazing what his teams have already done for the university. Allowing him to get bought for the cheap price of 2-5 million (compared to the cost of other University expenses like new dormitories), would be a terrible mistake.

That is a great way of putting it into perspective.

$3M would be a stretch. Unfortunately, revenue is tied into TV deals and being stuck in the MVC hurts. Who knows what the new CBS Sports marketing arm will bring in. Smart/Few amongst others don't leave because they love there situation. They make just over $1M per year.

I hate to break it to you, but coaches salary is mostly covered by private donations, not athletic department revenue. If we can afford to get him to 3 million, it will be coming from the boosters.
