  • What a joke. He needs to get some experience as an assistant before anyone will think about hiring him as a head coach. Chances are that he knows nothing about being a head coach. He would be a total disaster. It would be awesome.

    • I can't think of many things I'd like more than having him into Koch Arena. It would be an absolute free for all.

      • Sounds like WF is paying Manning $2.4mil, double what Tulsa tried to counter with.

Is a guy who has had barely half a season of success in the #13 conference worth that much?

No. But he would be stupid to pass it up. Even if he crashes and burns, he's set for life. I don't know why most ADs bother with a coaching search when they're just gonna throw a ton of money at a flash in the pan. This is why most coaching hires are bad, and most ADs are morons.

No, but apparently a guy named Danny Manning that coached Tulsa in the #13 conference was. He was hired for his name primarily. His success at Tulsa was a minor detail. A no-name coach at Tulsa with that amount of success would not have been hired by the Deamon Deacons.

You have got to believe that Larry Brown and Bill Self were pushing for this hire. If the WF AD did any background/references both of these guys were probably just drooling about what a great up and coming coach he is. Anything to get the "family" a tasty job.

                • This is insane. Who in hell did they have to out-bid to get this chump??

                  • I wonder how many recruits and existing quality players Manning will take with him to WF? Makes me think our game with TU next season won't be as illustrious and we'll end up serving them another 20 point beat down.

No doubt a factor in Manning's decision, although it was probably number 2,400,001 on his list.

There might not be another coach in America that would care less about the money than Manning. He did earn close to $60M during his NBA career.

                              • It's the prestige of saying you are coaching at a High Major and you are making more money than nine tenths of the coaches out there (whether you need the money or not).
