If this does indeed become final, it does make sense for a few reasons. He, and I believe his wife as well, is from Wisconsin, so they'd be heading back home in a sense. But on top of that, I think Shaka is realizing that his stock has cooled off over the last year or two, and he has likely plateaued at VCU. So, although Marquette is not at the level of other jobs he has reportedly been offered in the past, it is still a step up from VCU. And if he is able to get it going there, he'll be able to rebuild his own stock and move on to a better job. If he's able to do what we think he's capable of, I highly doubt he'll be at Marquette very long.

Figured I would complete your equation for you!

HCGM is a smart man, that's why he has already figured this equation out :)

          Jeff Capel back to VCU?

            You and me both :D

But you won't see me complaining now. I love me some John Groce, especially when he lands the true PG he needs for his system to run at full speed.

I had forgot that he's from the area, and I'm sure Marquette will pay $$$.

                Makes a little more sense.

This time of year is absolutely freaking nuts! What an emotional roller coaster ride for schools and their fans. What a sucky week for VCU is this is true. Highs and lows, man. Highs and lows.

Shaka to Marquette makes some sense. Shaka was born and raised in Wisconsin, the desire to go home is strong in that one, perhaps one day GM will want to get closer to home as well :(

                        Marshall to VCU?!?!

I remember reading on some message boards that we needed to get Marshall up near Shaka's salary if we wanted to keep him.

He turned down UCLA also, so it makes perfect nonsense.

These cryptic types of tweets always kind of piss me off. A little while ago, Scout's Evan Daniels tweeted "Shaka Smart to Marquette doesn't pass the smell test, IMO."
