Probably in some respects, I'm having a hard time believing it's anything more than a lateral move. I don't remember/know what offers he's had, so I could be wrong, I think he could have gotten a better job than VT over the past couple of offseasons if he had decided to leave. But if I'm not mistaken, there has also been a bit of ongoing friction between him and the Marquette AD for awhile as well, so an ACC job was probably hard to turn down. As far as the programs themselves, I'd say that he's had Marquette more relevant than VT for awhile, hence my thinking that it's at best a lateral move. I mentioned it on another board, but I also think this move may be an indictment of the new BIG EAST as much as it is anything else.

Of course his name is going to surface for almost any opening. Whether or not he takes it seriously is a completely different story. And I have an extremely hard time thinking he'd take Marquette seriously, considering his paycheck and benefits here, what he's done the last two seasons especially, and who he has returning next year.

There are a few jobs that would make one think just a little about WSU retaining HC3G2L, but Marquette doesn't even ping that radar in the slightest.

According to Sports Illustrated, Marquettes 2012-13 basketball budget was $10.7 million; and if Buzz Williams would have stayed at Marquette another two years, Marquette would have been paying him in excess of $4 million per season. That's some serious jack. VTs basketball budget is half Marquettes, and Williams is taking a big pay cut by going to VT. Must be something going on at Marquette.
