This is ridiculous. WSU schedules who and where it benefits them. If they bare recruiting a kid and tell him that they will play in his backyard at some point while he is attending there, then they will do that. Many of the major programs don't this. Many of the larger schools also throw a major alumni base a game in their area from time to time. If a coach feels his team needs exposure to a certain area for recruiting then that will happen. It all comes down to there are several right answers to this situation and the bashing of each other for having differing opinions is getting out of hand.

Sorry, guys for my disagreement with you. It's nothing personal but I remember my father being disgusted with KU in the 1960's for not scheduling WSU (and other things that they did to our university and south central Kansas) and we really didn't need them at that time because we were the basketball power.
This is all from my memory so it may have some flaws to it. We've played them 10-12 times in the past 65 or so years. Here is history as I remember it and as they say that if you forget the history, you are doomed to repeat it. Some others on here probably know more about the history than I do, but I can tell by reading some posts on here that a lot of you don't know the history or have forgotten it. As I have said, this has nothing to do with recruiting, or having nothing to gain, or any other reason. Those are excuses. It has everything to do with WSU staying in our place and not rocking the boat. I really don't care that much that we don't play them but I get tired of KU apologists re-writing history. I think that most (not all Royal) who give excuses and call us WHINERS, are probably dual KU/WSU supporters. I'm glad you are here but don't re-write history.
Phog Allen scheduled us to open up the Round House in the mid 50's as a favor to Ralph Miller who had played for him at KU. Then in the late 50's and early 60's we were a Top 10-15 program and better than KU and they had nothing to gain. From about 1966-1980, we were pretty competitive (although off and on, they were probably better than us) and they wouldn't schedule us. In 1981, we played the Battle of N.O. and won. The followed it up by not playing us for a while because they had nothing to gain and we were just as good and definitely competitive for most of those years because they had nothing to gain. They finally began to schedule us and it was competitive for a few years. They continued to schedule us into the mid 1990's and they began to dominate our program because we weren't very good and KU was very good. Our program has revived since 2000 when Turgeon became our coach. We've been a competitive program since then (although not nearly as good), and state big brothers to the north refused to schedule us.
Scheduling us in a FAIR manner would not hold the FLAGSHIP's program down and wouldn't change or alter the competitive balance.

I think the scheduling option that WSU should pursue is those NIT borderline NCAA teams. Look Tennessee played us and they are in the NCAA. BYU played us they are in the NCAA. SMU/MIZZOU/... here you are in the NIT and not the big dance. Play us and see where that will take you.

Does anyone know if we are still returning the game at Detroit next season? Or has it been delayed?
Right now I think we've got the following lined up (please correct me if I'm missing any):
Home: St. Louis, Tulsa, Alabama
Neutral: Diamondhead Classic (3 games), Memphis
Road: Detroit
That's 8 games we are locked into, with up to 4 remaining since the Diamondhead Class is a 3 game tournament.
I have no inside dope, but I'm guessing we'll keep things basically the same they've always been by adding 3 (give or take) buy games at home for revenue.
That leaves probably one game (two if the Detroit game is deferred, and I won't be surprised if it is) where we're looking to pick up H/H or another neutral game with a high level opponent.
I am excited to see how the schedule develops. It should be a fun slate.

Dates they've played:
December 18, 1908 - @ Wichita, KS
February 3, 1941 - @ Wichita, KS
February 2, 1942 - @ Wichita, KS
December 7, 1955 - @ Wichita, KS
March 20, 1981 - NCAA Tournament New Orleans
February 5, 1984 - @ Lawrence, KS
January 5, 1985 - Kansas City, MO
December 28, 1985 - BMA Holiday Classic Tournament @ Kansas City
January 6, 1987- @ Wichita, KS
January 25, 1989 - @ Lawrence, KS
January 9, 1990 - @ Wichita, KS
January 23, 1991 - @ Lawrence, KS
January 8, 1992 - @ Wichita, KS
January 6, 1993 - @ Lawrence, KS
It seems to me that there was really ever only a 5 year span out of 110 years of basketball that was actually an actual series. Seeing this makes me wonder why is such a big deal?
(I understand the perception of "Holding WSU down," but WSU has done well regardless of whether KU plays WSU)

I say we start a home-and-home series with Auburn. Pearl managed to turn Tennessee completely around in 1 year and considering how much the SEC blows he might be able to do the same at Auburn. He was very complimentary of us this year and the Forbes connections seems like it could lead to a possible series.
