Lutz takes on Gottlieb in the Eagle

I don't live there but listen to the Bruce/Bob show 2 or 3 x per week while at work. I don't get the impression of Bob hating the Shox. In fact, seems to me he's a big fan of WSU and dislikes the valley as the MoVal holds the Shox back. He loves North High, Derby, Cardinals, and Shox.
Oh..... And loves the phrase "Well..," whenever he answers a Bruce question.

As now having met Bob and worked with him on the Shocker Invitational, I can tell you these FACTS:

Bob grew up as a huge Shocker fan.
Bob became a journalist.
Bob now tries to be a good journalist and look at sports objectively.
Bob doesn't hate the Shockers.
Bob respects Gregg Marshall.
Bob doesn't hate Gregg Marshall.

Lutz did not have the Shocker beat before Paul S. And to think the Eagle ask him to rein it in and he actually replied is nuckin' futz. Rein it in from what?

Lutz has been forced to be more positive, even though he hates Marshall's guts (which is his right). His continual bashing of the Valley is a thinly veiled "they haven't played anybody" mantra.

I disagree. Our schedule strength is entirely based on the nonconference. No one here is bragging about the Valley's strength. Unless Lutz bags on our noncon schedule, and starts arguing that Saint Louis isn't a real top 10 team, then him bagging on the Valley is more likely because he wants us out of the Valley.

Look, Bob Lutz is who he is...a columnist. A person that writes pieces laced with opinion, commentary and in some cases critic. Some on this board are ultra sensitive and butt hurt when Lutz writes a piece or two that doesn't rain with sunshine and chirping birds when it comes to Shocker sports.

Yes, he and Marshall were on opposite sides of a written opinion of Bob's a few years ago regarding "the worst loss in Shocker history." Get over it people. It doesn't make him a forever villain. He does not have the greatest bedside manner on the radio airwaves. He can come across as a bully. Ok, we have uncovered him as imperfect. But as a writer, he is actually pretty good...not perfect.

I also know him, have for about 30 years. I have indirectly worked on some of the same projects. I am not a friend of his. He is someone, in fact, I would not be friends with. I do know he is a huge Shocker fan on the inside and wants nothing but success for each Shocker program. He is a journalist...a journalist requiring him to write as a columnist, with opinion and commentary. Move on people!!!

This, a columnist with no opinion doesn't sell many papers. Of course in this day and age, no one sells many papers.
